car locks:-s

Featured Replies

Morning all, i have come to unlock my car today and the unlock button on the fob is not working. The light on the fob is not flashing (not that i ever noticed it did before), i am still able to unlock the car with the key so its not the end of the world. Also the boot button is working as well, does this sound like the battery in the fob is running out ???

thanks matt

ps if i need to change the battery in the fob am i going to have to go to the dealer to get the key fob matched to the car???

The battery change (CR2032) is a simply DIY job with no need for the dealer, it should all be covered in your manual.

will do, can any one advice on why it locks the car and unlocks the boot but does not unlock the car ???:-s

update i have tried the spare key and that works, when i came to use the normal key to go home from work the unlock button would still not work and when i used the key to physically unlock the car and then started the car the alarm would go off once and then would turn off.

Any one got a clue about whats going on, i dont really want to have to use the spare key as its brand new and has never been used

Not sure why it locks the car and unlocks the boot but does not unlock the car. But, I just changed mine as the battery went during the weekend. So I can advise on changing the battery! :) In the owner's manual, it states that when you open a door with the key, the alarm will go off. As soon as this happens, start the engine. The alarm will turn off. Have you got the 3 button key fob? If so, battery replacement is relatively straight forward. The part of the fob with the 3 unlock/lock buttons slides down from the upper section which the ignition key is on. Best method for sliding the sections apart is to turn the fob over and separate the two sections using a small screwdriver, about 2cm under the Skoda logo. Then, pull apart the lower section and replace the CR2023 battery and put it all back together again.

I managed to replace it fairly quickly so didn't have to recode the key. If you need to, the recoding instructions are in the owner's manual - press one button on the fob, then unlock the car using the physical key. Hope that helps.

Could just be the PCB has broken somehow? Or the rubber has worn down?

I know on my parents old car, the rubber over the buttons would wear down and it stopped working properly. Replace the rubbers and it worked again. Not really too sure what the key on the Fabia is like, so not sure if that's likely or not?
