Tuning options, boot problem, and throttle hang!

Featured Replies

Thought i might as well put it all on one thread!

Tuning options. Other than a remap, what else is available for the 1.9 TDI (130bhp), what are the differences between that and the Fabia VRS/Golf GT TDI PD150bhp, is it just turbo, manifold, and bigger IC? Do K&N air filter elements make much difference to pick up and performance?

Boot issue. Posted about this before, basically I can only open the boot off the key, regardless what position the key switch on the drivers door is in, or on the boot. Mechanism on the boot is fine (gotta be if the solenoid will open off the key), is it likely to be the CCM, could I be lucky and it just be a corroded connection?

And finally, every so often, when I'm driving, when I take my foot off the accelerator, the revs won't drop for a second or two, and when idling (again only once every so often) it'll rev up 200rpm, even if the A/C is not on and it's just been started. I say it's only once every so often but it does seem to be becoming more frequent.

Minor issues on one of the best cars I've ever owned! Any help on the above would be great :)

Haza,

Regarding tuning options, I've had a 130 BHP Passat remapped to 170 ish (very good too), and the tuner said the high flow filters such as K&N are a waste of money. Stick with a good quality stock replacement. Not too sure about the 150 BHP engines, are they not the 2 litre?

The boot issue may be water ingress or a dodgy switch/relay...?

The engine rev issue could be the idle control valve, not really sure. Roto should be along soon to prove me wrong...!!

Best of luck,

Robbie

Hi, the 130bhp engine can be tuned quite highly! Take a look at the fabia vrs owners. Maps, intakes, IC's etc. Can get to some pretty high numbers!

Boot issue is probably the convenience unit. Check for water in your footwells. Do all your interior lights come on and go off on opening and closing your doors? Most likely cause.

Cant help with the revs issue. These cars are pretty robust if you look after them. Apart from the 2.0 diesel which seems to implode whether it is looked after or not!!

Hope this of some help!

Could be CCU but mine was doing same and turned out to be faulty boot switch. Here's hoping.

I'm relatively pally with the local Skoda dealers, I'll pop in an see if they'd take it back if it doesn't sort the problem, I've read the symptoms for a CCM with water ingress, and this is the only issue I have with mine, everything else, interior lights, central locking etc works Superb (see what I did there!)

I adore the car, done 2k in it in the past 3 weeks, and it's not skipped a beat, and returns amazing fuel economy for something the weighs 1600kgs, it's just this boot issue is the priority at the moment, as I can see me locking my keys in the boot and being stranded somewhere!

Opening the boot using the key does not involve the lock solenoid (motor).

If you take out the inner boot lid trim, you will see a longish bowden cable which runs from the lock barrel to the latch via the unlock motor. When you open the boot with the key, the bowden is pulled at the lock barrel and the boot opens.

I had a similar problem on my Superb (one of its very few faults). The boot would only open with the key, although you could hear the motor trying to operate the latch for about 2 secs until the controller in the CCM timed out to avoid overload.

The cause was a stiff pivot in the latch mechanism, which made it too hard to the unlock motor to pull the latch. It was the pivot for the first lever the bowden pulls on at the latch end. One drop of engine oil on the pivot has fixed it for good.

As with the boot hinge pivots, VAG have a habit of bumping these too hard on assembly, which makes them too stiff.

Wonder if they've stopped doing this yet?
