Featured Replies

Can't afford headwork, new injectors, new valves, cam, Rods in one go.

We're stuck at the minute, air con pipe is touching the manifold!!

Who needs air con?

Turbos fitted and quote "goes like ****".

Pictures and rr figures in a bit, but consensus is, injectors are maxed out (running as Much fuel as possible on the map).

Standard injectors?

Be interesting to see what power it makes.

Mine is just under 270bhp in my opinion, RR figures are representative. Vary from 266 to 280 odd.

People say it can't be on standard injectors and then I did a 13.6 second quarter mile... :wonder:

sweet, is this the new turbo etc and a new map?

Yep, whole new map to suit, peaks at 2.2, holds at 2. Booked in at a good accurate dyno tommorow, along with a GTB'd vw jetta!

Looking forward to seeing the results

same here, hopefully picking up the parts next weekend and will be asking Ryan about nozzles/injectors and mapping

Good build, looking forward to seeing the progress!!

As expected.....228bhp on an accurate, almost conservative dyno. The injectors are running at the safest max. I'm actually in Dubai at the minute, then I'll scan dyno up.

Next step is get a few more rr print outs. (wanna go AMD, jabba), Santa pod, trax in septemeber, then plan next phase of mods.

here's some info plus graph

Very nice power graph, check the other project cars and look at the passat, not a peaky map at all! It will drive very well on track :-)

Let me know when you are going to Santa Pod. I'll try and join you.

Good work :)

Let me know when you're going to AmD and I'll join you too so we can compare. :)

I'd be disappointed with 228bhp but if it's on accurate rollers then I'm sure it'll run more elsewhere (where most people quote figures from).

I ran 225bhp yesterday and ran 240bhp at AmD, although at AmD I was using better fuel on a colder day. All swings and roundabouts I guess.

There was an MD376 PD130 that ran on the same day with water meth, ported head, and the standard bolt on mods which ran on the same dyno on the same day, it made just under 200bhp..........But those results will be posted up when the guys fitted his 2265 and injectors and had another remap. (Tom of Seatcupranet). Again, if you look through his build thread on there, he's ran 250bhp, and 410lbs.............

The rollers are known as "the heart breakers" on scoobynet, and it's defitley a lot faster than when it was a hybrid, no doubt about it. I'd rather quote 1/4 mile times, but I won't be able to get there for a while..........

If that's the case then surely they under-read massively? Surely standard cars would run a lot under their quoted figures?

But yeah I know what you mean, tons of people ask what power my car is and never know what to say, just end up saying 220-240bhp nowadays.

1/4 miles are a good base, dependant on driver ability though, someone decent launching my car could probably run a better 1/4 time than someone **** launching yours, and that implies mine is quicker, which is stupid IMO

Still, be good to see figures from other tuners :)

Hi,

Me and my bro Ryan run Darkside.

The dyno we use is notorious on the scooby forums for 'under reading' compared to other dynos. I have seen some dynos show 150-160bhp for a standard PD140 2.0 TDI (BKD Engine Code). Our Jetta did 131.9bhp on this particular dyno as standard and 166.6bhp with our remapped file. Other dynos have shown 190-200bhp for a BKD with a remap, which is well over what the GT1749VA is capable of. It then pulled 235bhp with the GTB2260vk and the other mods.

Going back to the 1.9 8v, on a good daily driver tune, 230bhp is the maximum that can be achieved without excessive smoke (Luke's car has virtually zero smoke) and pushing the injection duration beyond what is safe. The only realy way of getting more out of the stock injectors would be a Camshaft with revised injector lobe profile (something we are working on at present) which would give a little more shove. Even then we are not talking more than 10bhp.

I think the beauty of this kit is not what it produces on a relatively stock engine, but the fact that it can be retained when changing the injectors, porting the head ect and the GTB2260vk has been proven to give ~300bhp with other supporting modifications. For example, just swapping the injectors for some of our Race PD models, Luke would be looking at a real 265bhp smoke free.

We are not looking to compete with the Hybrid turbos, they have their place in the market. The GTB2260vk comes into it own above 250bhp where the Exhaust Manifold Pressures and Exhaust Gas Temperatures would be at a level the MD376 could only dream of. EMPs and EGTs are what kill a track going car.

What you also need to remember, if the plan is to stick to ~230bhp (thats always the plan right? haha, just ask Luke) the GTB1756VK is externally identical to the GTB2260VK, but will spool much quicker and still have relatively low EMPs and EGTs. The only downside is that 230bhp is the max we would push the 1756vk to. Then again, the turbine and compressor side are loads bigger than any VNT17 based hybrid.

Thanks

Scott

Ahh, so THIS is the Darkside Fabia emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Very nice spec.

Oh, and welcome Scott - glad that you've found us ;)

Cheers,

Steve

Oh, I have a habit of tootling along at 60mph in cruise on way to work and back, dual carrigeway. Mpg ain't effected according to mpg gauge on dash, and neither is drivability!

As soon as my old kit is sold, I can sort out injectors, haha!

What are you selling and how much? I think I'm gunna go down the same route as you.

Why did you go for the 60 over the hybrid 65?

Old kit is hybrid and downpipe.........

I'm never gonna be gunning for 300bhp (I keep telling myself).

Injectors and a reground cam is how far I wanna go, don't wanna go down the route oh machining my head, porting, bigger valves etc..........That's reccomened for a 2265.

Ah OK. You going to any shows this year? I'd like to go out in your car to see the difference or compare 'em side-by-side if possible

I was hoping to meet up at a RWYB day at the Pod sometime. It would be great to get some Fabias with different ways of making the power there together. A nice comparison of how different approaches perform.

Sounds good to me mate! Let the cars do the talking! Let us know when you fancy it!

Finally!!! - now could you all stop off at a RR on the way home to settle the power debate???

In all seriousness, I am very keen to see how a jabba stage 3 & a 2260 perform alongside one another
