Intermittent brake grabbing

Featured Replies

I would be grateful for any advice for the problem we are encountering with our Octavia TDI DSG (56) Not only do the warning ABS/brake and ESP lights come on, but the brakes grab, then release, then grab again - off, on etc.. (It feels as though you are travelling on a stop-start kangaroo not in a car.) The car is not safe to drive, yet the local Skoda garage cannot diagnose any fault.

The car is 4 years old, regularly Skoda-serviced and no trouble of any kind until now.

There are warning lights on but the Skoda garage can't find a fault? I would try another garage!

It's not so simple. The garage is a main dealer and has done all the regular diagnostic tests, checked the electrics and the wiring, made 3 road tests, but still the brake fault recurs. It all started earlier this month when the warning lights came on, and since it was the weekend, I called the AA; the AA technician diagnosed a faulty ABS sensor. The garage checked the sensors, but they were OK. Subsequently, the brake grabbing developed. Everything has been checked again but still no fault has been isolated. The garage is collecting the car again next week in another attempt to identify the fault. We entered this query in case anybody else has encountered this same brake problem and could throw some light on it.

Update. The Octavia has now been back on the road for nearly a fortnight with no problems. The garage checked through all the electrics twice and installed a new ABS unit. The cost would have been horrendous but for help from the garage and Skoda UK, to both of whom many thanks.
