Do you mean the bearing hubs that the wheel bolts to?

Fully accept the discs rust but the what about the wheel hub (painted silver} to which the wheel is bolted?

It'll only be surface - if the appearance bothers you, rub it down and re-paint it. That's what I did. :)

It was only surface rust on the Titanic when it went down! Look at it now... Jenolite should do it :)

The "hub" you describe is part of the disc and will eventually go completely rusty . You'll need to re-paint quite a few times to preserve a rust free finish. Most car discs on this mounting face go completely rusty in about 2 years useage.

Dont think your being picky at all!

Same issue with mine which is not only unsightly but also leaves residual rust marks on the inner of wheels making them a pig of a job to clean.

Had two other new car's in the family an A3 and Honda Civic neither of which have developed the same problem which leads me to believe cost cutting is in evidence.

Ok, you could take the wheels off and re-paint the affected area but why should it be necessary on a £20k+ new vehicle?

Excuse the rant as Im still waiting for the front bumper to be re-painted a second time and the motor isnt 10 months old!

All unpainted metal will go rusty, since the hub part you see at the rear wheel is part of an unpainted disk it will go rusty, they all do its just more noticeable with alloy wheels. The subject has been raised many times in the past, and the general cocensus is, paint with hamerite at regular intervals to keep the rust at bay.

The wheel "hub" you are talking about is the brake disc its all one piece on the Superb and most cars nowadays , you can paint it with heat resistant paint if it really bothers you but you will go nowhere as far as a warranty claim would go.

Many Tx 4 that pointer. I'll try it.

Iron X is a brilliant product but it wont remove the rust of a hub (Ive tried) as its main use is to dissolve tiny contamination iron particles which it does with aplomb.

Had to invest when I couldnt remove the tiny rust coloured flecks that had embedded themselves into the paint from the trip over the waters!

As has been said previous, best to take the wheels off and re-paint the hubs and while doing it give the wheels a good clean and seal to help things along

Steel or cast iron brake discs, brake drums and wheel hubs will rust on any make of vehicle, im my 40 years in the trade never found any that did not show rust.

My MkI had rust occuring on the discs but never stained the wheels in 6 years, these were just polished with AG polish not sealed either. My first MkII had to have the discs cleaned and painted every 3/4 months even the disc edges looked good as new with this treatment after 2 years. My new Combi showed rust on the discs/hubs after just 2 months due to road salting, I had some Blackfriars Red Oxide paint and some QS 90 Silver paint left from another project, so used these on the discs and hubs, after another 4 months the silver is as bright and shiny as the day I used it, it made the calipers lokk grotty so I painted them with Hammerite Light green.

I'd like to see a piccy of that. Sounds like it might look rather good.

Will do as soon as I get rid of chest infection and can remove wheels.
