Amundson Sat Nav Disc

Featured Replies

Hi, We have just traded in our 3 year old Roomster for a shiny new Octavia Estate. It came with the Amundson Sat Nav and when we picked it up, the sales guy said he had just realised that it couldn't play cd's while the sat nav was running unless you copied the data to a SD card. He had already done that apparently, but left the CD in the car downloading onto the SD card as we drove the car home. That was yesterday evening when we picked the car up. He phone this afternoon and asked my husband to bring back the CD as he needs it for another car. We have never had a Sat nav before, so scuse me if this sounds thick!!!

My questions are: if the sat nav only runs with the CD (with the option to download onto SD card) then surely that disc belongs to us?

Is there any difference in operation between the SD card and the disc?

If it runs better of the disc, then why have we been charged for this option, cos it sounds a crap deal to me?

What would you do?

I was surprised that we didn't have our 6 cd changer unit, I presume that that is because that runs with the other sound system. We were never told that we wouldn't get that and I am a bit miffed, as it seems to me that we have paid for something that is worse that we would have had as standard in terms of our usability.

Anyone any views on what our next step should be?

With regard to the SD Card - What type and class of SD Card is required? Is it also possible to copy the European & UK discs onto the same SD Card? Many thanks, Stuart

I wasn't aware you could get the Amundsen in an Octavia. I though it was only the Columbus or the bolero you can get the amundsen in the fabia and other models though. I have ordered the Columbus with my new Octavia and was told the updates don't come on disc anymore you get them on sd card, but as I don't have my new car yet I'm unable to confirm anything

Thanks Allan - this car was one of the 1.6 mpi cars on the deal at the moment. You basically chose the best fit from what the garage had coming in and paid for whatever extras it had, though some were chucked in for free. We were told ours had the sat nav and the metallic paint which we had to pay for (extra 1k) and the sports alloys which we got free. He didn't tell us what sat nav at the time and as you say, when we tried to do a "build your own" on the website as a comparison, the Amundson isn't available as an option :wonder:

He also didn't tell us that we wouldn't get our 6 cd auto changer which should have come with the spec so I am not very happy. :(

When he phoned, my OH took the call and agreed to drop the disc up to him today as he needs it for another customer - that won't be happening!!!!

as A: i think it belongs to us and B: it's a public holiday and I plan to be drinking and OH is at work. I also think I read somewhere that there is no sound available if it is on SD card?!? but haven't tested that yet. If that's true then basically it's crap as you would need to have the disk in all the time you have the Sat Nav on and therefore can't play CDs!!!

According to the manual for the Amundsen it works exactly the same on SD card as it would with the cd. Plus if you use the card for navigation then you can listen to cd's as normal

Thanks for that, it sounds like it might be fine then. Why do they have such a stupid arrangement?!

......still not taking the disc up to him. If he wants it he can come fetch it - not using my petrol up. ;)

I always thought you got the disc to keep but they may have changed it. My dealer said it's updated by SD card now so not sure hopefully won't have too long to wait

I believe that we should get the disk to keep - after all, the fact that he has loaded it onto SD card doesn't mean that we shouldn't have the original disk. I suspect that he didn't get enough of them for the cars he has been given. He will just need to order in more from Skoda - I've now copied the files from the disc to my PC, but they wont burn to disk for some reason and my PC is 10 years old so doesn't have a card slot so not that much use to me at moment.

I'm not sure how (or if) we will get any updates.

I think the amundsen unit copies it to SD card for you

If you have the disk!! If we give him the disk and the card corrupts for some reason then we would have to go back to him - that still doesn't seem right.

If he wants to "borrow" OUR disk so that he can sort out the other customers sat nav then that is fine, but he will have to arrange that himself, I am not trailing up to him with it. Thanks for being so helpful allan. :)

Each nav unit should have its own disk, as you need it should the card become corrupted. The dealers should order a disk for each nav unit at the time the car is ordered. Using the same disk for each unit is copyright theft, as each unit needs a disk for the license.

Thanks Manyo, that's what I thought, if it needs to have the disk then it should be supplied with the unit. It is then our choice whether to have it on SD card or not. The fact that he put it on the card is neither here nor there.

Incidentally, the disk is a Bosch one that says Navigation CD-ROM Blaupunkt - would I be right in thinking that this is maybe not the right disk anyway? Also, do you know whether we get the updates sent through to us or do we have to buy those somewhere?

This might not make you feel better. I am waiting for my car (hopefully next week) but I got the extras, in my case the Amundsen sat-nav, maxi-dot, 17" Pallas alloys, metallic paint and sports suspension for no extra charge. The spec also lists the 6 CD changer but I am not picking it up until the end of next week so we will see! The Amundsen manual I have dowloaded implies that the expectation is that CD maps are downloaded to the SD card.

You are right, that doesn't make me feel better - sales guy wasn't great - wasn't the guy we had originally seen as it was his day off the day that we had gone back for the test drive. I await his call looking for the disk with great interest! That is exactly the set up we have - in the black magic finish - looks lovely btw.

1956, We paid £13,090 for the same set up as you, if you don't mind saying, what did you pay? I am going to take the bull by the horns and phone him shortly.

Mine is an estate and cost £12,470 plus the cost of a spare wheel. On the spreadsheet Hobin sent me of the cars they have the equivalent hatchback, with the same accessories, was £11,430.

It's the estate we have too.

The base price for the estate was app 1k higher than the hatch so that seems right. You have paid for something extra, either the paint or the sat nav - would guess the former.

Well, thank you 1956 - you may have made me feel bad for a wee while, but just off the phone to the dealer and upshot is that he will refund £655 to me.......and we can keep the disk!

Would never have known if you hadn't responded, so thank you again. That's too much money to just say goodbye to.

Well that is a result  ! I am hoping to pick mine up in a week or so - are you happy with it so far?

It looks beautiful - the big alloys are the business - my son thinks it looks like a limo!!!

It hasn't been driven far yet, it came home from the garage and has been to Sainsburys for some petrol! Probably done about 10 miles so far! liking it though and we will get out in it at the weekend - OH working today and Monday. Hope you are happy when you get yours too. What colour did you get?

Mine is black. If you get chance to post a photo I would like to see how the alloys look on the car B)
