Rear Pads and Discs on 1.9 tdi octy

Featured Replies

ok , taken rear wheels off , but want to know if i can replace the discs and the pads without diconnecting the handbrake cable , looks a bit tight and fear i may not get back on , the rest looks as if it will all come apart fairly easy and rebolt , have the windback tool for the piston . Thanks

No you need to remove the end of the handbrake cable from the caliper

This isn't strictly necessary - I've done this task without disconnecting the cable. I just used a tall box to rest the caliper on while I was working, although I admit it didn't have much movement in it, but it was sufficient.

The hand brake cable should easily disconnect from the back/rear of the assembly. I am pretty sure I popped mine out with my fingers the other weekend when I dropped the rear beam to change the bushes. tbh: I suspect winding the piston back in might be made hard if you don't.

Thanks for all the advice , finished doing them this afternoon , first time on the skoda brakes , after 130k miles the rears were just about shot , looks nice with the New Disc as well , would have been a waste not to do both at same time . Winding back was very easy with the tool. And done a short run to test them , all bolts done up with the torqe wrench , and double checked . Considerring doing the fronts in a month or so , but they still have 40% pad left , these are original as well so iam either very soft on the braking or the OEM pads and discs are good quality . cheers and thanks again

If you still have 40% pad left on all the front pads then I would not bother. If you thought the rears were easy, then the fronts are even easier (FS III calipers, if they are fitted to the PD130), as there is no need for a windback tool. You will need a 7mm (iirc) allen key on a socket drive to make the job a real doodle!
