Ah well mate, don't be dis-heartened - there'll be another :)

But yes, on the DPF I'd go down that route and the rip the bloody thing out! As long as you go in eyes open etc, you'll be fine emoticon-0148-yes.gif

After nearly a year looking I'm afraid I don't believe that.... :'(

I hear you. Problem is, if you get into that mindset I reckon you aren't as objective looking over possible examples when you do find them. Just my outlook on things :)

What sort of location area are you looking in?

Yeah, you're right, but sometimes I think I'm being to fickle though?

Been searching mainly in a 100-150 mile radius, I met a guy on holiday who is a car dealer in Blackpool and he has got his eyes peeled, he said he would view and test any, then we could go up for the weekend and buy, but even he hasn't seen much about.

Ressurection -

May have found a suitable car (after nearly a year looking :o ) '57' plate Golf GT Tdi 140 in grey 54k 2 owners FVSH £8995 - before haggling begins - my only issue is it has a DPF, is this cause for concern on the 140?

With DPF cars you need to use them on long runs to burn off the soot. Short journeys are not what DPF cars are all about. Even the VW main dealers, in 2006/7 asked prospective customers if they were doing mainly short journeys, and if they were they were steered away from DPF cars. There are hundreds of Golf TDI's around for sale, I'm surprised you have'nt found one yet.

Golf Tdi's yes but not the elusive GT Tdi.....

Tbh the DPF is pretty irrelevant as when and if we get one(with a DPF), it will be removed and the car remapped. ;)

Here's a question for the masses, got my eye on another one on eBay, all looks good but the current owner has lost the service booklet, they claim it has a FVWSH, so can I contact VW direct for conformation and a replacement booklet?

I'm sure I read of another member trying to confirm service history with a dealer and they would not give him the info as he wasn't the owner of the car.

No service book and claims to be FVWSH = walk away.

Yes, should all be logged on the dealerships system.

I would put the onus on the current owner to get that sorted. Yes, a replacement booklet can be obtained and the garages that carried out those services could be contacted to have the correct stamps put in the book. I've seen it done before.

Thats exactly the same as my dads except his is the 1.4tsi. He bought his last October with 18k on the clock for £11k so that is very cheap for a diesel. We were looking for over 6 months and couldn't find anything in a diesel under £12k.

Found this one today, amazing that the seller is asking £2k less than its worth over a 'problem' that apparently is a common fault......?

49,000 miles, 2007 ( 57 Reg) VW Golf GT Sport TDI DPF 6 speed, 5 Door, Hatchback 49,000 miles 17" Alloy Wheels Power Assisted Steering 2 Owners Electric Windows, front & back Fog Lights Heated Mirrors CD/ MP3 Player Grey Upholstery Tinted windows at back Body Coloured Bumpers Air conditioning Trip Computer Central Locking Immobiliser Full VW Service History MOT until Sept 2011 140bhp 1968 cc Average MPG 55 mph 2 lady owners Clean car, immaculate throughout 6 months tax 6 month MOT Low mileage 49,000 This is a beautiful car both externally and internally and is lots of fun to drive. I've kept it in a really good condition and I have full VW service history. The only issue is at very fast speeds the car goes in to limpmode but this has never affected me because it was intermittent and once the engine is switched off and on it works fine again. I've taken it to a mechanic who says it's a common fault but don't need to worry about it. He said that as it's only at high speeds and does not affect the performance of the car these no need to fix it. Like I said it hasn't affected me but thought I'd be honest. Hence the low price. £7,500 No time wasters.

I've got to say, I would be looking for a new mechanic if mine fobbed me off with that explaination!

Limp mode at high speeds?! emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

That looks nice

Ah right, sorry - missed the link.

Looks good that. Nice spec emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Cheap Taiwan/Chinese satnav, which you may want to swap out. Ask if they have the original stereo :)

Really? It looks like the factory fit MFD2 sat nav, and it has the VW shark aerial.

This is one fitted in the GTi.

Apologies, you're right. I just had a quick scan over the pics and it looked to me like a cheap retro. Must have forgotten how 'cheap' the MFD2 looks in comparison to the Columbus :D

Pic from the AT ad and it does look the same as the pic you've posted

Phewwwww, you had me worried!

You are right, it looks pants compared to the RNS 510, but to be fair it's an unexpected extra that wasn't on the 'wish list'.
