Which rubber?

Featured Replies

Well it looks like our recent return trip to the South of France has left me with four nigh-on slick tyres from a perfect MOT only two weeks earlier!

A bit of forum searching and googling suggest that Uniroyal Rainsport 2's are the tye of choice, any suggesitons on where to buy from? (Sheffield / online), or anything else I should look at?

Currently it has Cooper's up front and Continentals at the rear.

im going for yokohama prada spec 2 ones on my new spiders been told they stick like snot to the road

probably should say that its a daily driver and we do a fair amount of miles so they need to last reasonably well if possible.

same for me i do alot of miles every week but i am told these last well? suppose time will tell

Yeah, they don't last too long but are great in the dry!

they also seem to be double the price of the Rainsports!

yoko's are great in the dry, but wear v.quickly and aren't any good in the wet!

I'll be getting Vredestein sportrac 3's when i next need some rubber. If your local tyre place does price matching too they are £75 a corner on camskill (non currently in stock but most places outside of people like kwik fit ect will match it anyway if you ask).

ive found them for £69 each through my mate  for 205/40/R17

Thats what I've had on my previous vehicle (it was a VW Caddy C20... with R32 rims). I was always happy with the Pirelli P6000's that I had on the Punto HGT but have no experience of the P Zero's (the former outperformed the Vrede's IMO).

Heard rainsports are brilliant in the wet but wear quickly in dry. There's been a lot of threads recently have a search mate

The rossos on my mother's leon FR have never given me cause for concern when giving it some stick (i have been on many spirited drives in it too before I got my fabia). Good choice if you want Pirelli's

I like rainsports, but yokos are on another level on a dry road :)

I haven't compared them extensively in the wet yet tho....

I liked my Toyo T1-Rs but they didn't last long, although 13k isn't bad compared to what others had out of theirs.

I'm currently trying Rainsports and they are not bad in the dry. It has not rained much so can't comment on what they are like in the (very) wet.

I was going to buy two sets of rainsports for the wifes fabia vrs and my octy vrs, but was put off by some local tyre fitter's who said they had a soft side wall and were more prone to side wall damage ???

In the end I bought two sets of (British made) Avon ZZ3 tyres from Camskil's, 4 x 205/40R17 W and 4 x 225/40R18 Y.

So far we have been very pleased with the Avon's, road noise is low, no tram lining and handling is good (however, let me point out me and the wife are not into track day's lol).

And the best bit is the fabia vrs is recording better fuel consumption with the Avon's fitted, on our weekly trip to and from Guisborough to Leeds Bradford air port.

Rainsports are amazing in the wet, but they`ll be mullered in the summer very quickly. You`d be better off with prada`s in the summer. They only seem to be £10-£20 more expensive too

+1. Since it's warmed up, all I can hear is constant tyre squeal on anything but old tarmac. Still, they do seem to grip well enough and I don't do many miles, so I'll take the trade off personally.

had uniroyal rainsports 2 on a few cars, they are STUNNING! Incredible in the wet, snow and ice. And what surprised me more is that there very competant when your having a b road blast loads of grip. For me £75 a corner

Very comfy and quiet too don't forget! I liked them in the snow too. £250 for 4 fitted. :)

I forgot about that well said mate.

Very comfy and quiet ;)

I have toyo tr series at the moment, similar grip to the Goodyear gsd3 but didn't last anywhere bear as long!! Before that I had uniroyal rs2 and I didn't like them at all, wear out fast and wet grip was nothing special,

I had some Toyo T1R's on the front of mine but didnt last very long at all, i've now got some Pirelli P Zero Nero's on all 4 corners of my car, i really like them and will be getting them again, no complaints about them at all
