We're getting a Dog!

Featured Replies

Hi All,

We're acquiring a 4 year old, Police German Shepard in June when it's handler retires (yeay!)

I've been looking into how to contain such a beast in the back of the Superb.

Now i've browsed the forum looking for info - found all the bit's on the Skoda dog-guard, but as this pooch is large, and is used to being in the back of a Police van, we thought a box would be better for her.

I've found (locally!) a 2nd hand Lintran Dog Box a DB11 Frontier, made for an Audi A6 or BMW 5 series etc - i have collected it tonight, and can say, that it's the perfect fit for a Superb Estate! - The box is light enough to load and unload (without dog of course) on your own, and will contain and mess, mud or other that she may make.

It's a little over a month until our pooch comes to live with use, but i will of course post some photo's of her in her box, in the car when she arrives.

my dog is on the back of the seats... i just put there some cover than all the mess and hairs are not on the seats ant he is ok with this and me too

As a Superb Estate owner and having owned a GSD in the past I am slightly envious. Our GSD was the most loyal pet I've ever known, even when our son came along, they became best of friends. Unfortunately she was diagnosed with cancer when she was just 7 years old and we had to do what was best for her.

However, I'm sure the Superb will make the perfect GSD transporter... have fun :)

Cool, that's the reason I ordered the Superb, we got an alaskan malamute puppy. I ordered the skoda before I got her in Dec, got puppy in Jan .

She's growing fast, at 6 months the superb can't arrive fast enough.

Still having issues finding a dog guard that doesn't require drilling.

Yep, thats another reason for the Box... + Being ex Police, she's been used to a Van, and has settled into that - so this will make the superb more van-like for her!

Being an Ex-Police Dog would "Paw Cuffs" be helpful in restraining the beast :D

Changing your address to Letsby Avenue then, Al?

I found the easiest and cheapest meathod was to simply buy a £9.99 dog guard from pound stretchers / Argos and use cable ties to fix it to the rear headrests. Easy to fix and remove by simply taking the headrests out. No drilling required.

Has anyone tried sleeping tablets in the Pedigree Chum just before you travel? :giggle:

We have a Lintran box in the back of our Yeti - he was a bit younger when this was taken. They were recommended to us and we were impressed with them when we saw them at Discover Dogs. They do contain the dust and dirt well and still let the dog see out. Ours has the optional fan so you do get the occasional "zing" noise when one of his ears gets into the blades. No blood stains on the Gobi leather so far, though.

Having said that, he also seems perfectly happy in his fabric crate on the back seat of the XF (though I doubt whether a GSD would fit) - we just have to listen to the panting as he watches us through the mesh between the front seats.

When my dogs were younger (Rough Collies) and we took them to agility and obediance events we had a cage taylor made for the MkV Escort Hatch we had at the time. It also had a door at the back so that if we were in an accident, the rear seats could be folded down and the dogs removed.

Unfortuantly I can't remember where we got it from but I do recall we found the manufacture details in the bag of a monthly dog training magazine which I know is still available from WHSmith. We also found the local dog training clubs very helpful.

No, but the dog might go for it.

 ...can't say i have either... Neighbours have got a dog, should I try it out on him? :giggle:

The Lintran boxes are among the best, if not THE best! We used to use a large one in my old Landcruiser but found it a bit bulky taking it in and out. We now use a " Dog Bag " in the back of the Superb and find it ideal for our Cattle Dog. Mind you he's only 23.5 Kg, a bit smaller than a Shepard.

Couldn't resist sticking up a piccy of him!

Well, "Carla" has arrived, and has been with us for a few nights now - This is her in the back of the Superb Estate, in a Lintran Box, with a Richbrook bumper protector and a RGM Moulding Rear-Guard in silver fitted.

The Richbrook protector was no where near wide enough to cover all eventualities... so i bought the rear guard... it's an Ok fit, and the colour aint too bad - I did however have to change padded double sided to a thinner type at one place, to stop the boot lid from catching...
