The mongrel's temporary replacement

Featured Replies

Hopefully not too long term :D

Peugeot 806, 1997 vintage - Capacious thing, and a bit different to drive than the mongrel.

Given a bit of a clean-up this evening after work, wash, and clayed the bonnet which was full of sap. Will look at other areas at another time, but there's some damage here and there - definitely a good work horse! :D

Piece of pre-mongrelling fabia water pipe converted into a veg oil filling up tube! 94p a litre from Tescos is much better than £1.45 for diesel, and this thing runs as well on either.

It's a beaut!!!

Yeah what a beast....

I'll get pics of the rusty driver's side tomorrow :D

Love the way it has one colour coded door handle, and one black plastic one. Sheer class

Its the little things that make it a class of its own really, no one else can compete lol.

I gotta say mate, we had these as official vehicles to transport us to and from France on the the tunnel, comfort wise, there are head and shoulders above the 807, and the Shararns we have now.....they do look carp though! :giggle:

Yes, it does have comfort going for it. Doesn't inspire confidence in corners, but then I am only wafting along like you should in a bus. :D

Brother had the Citroen version for years, transported many children around the local village on school runs for nearly 8 years before they sold it on.

Don't forget to log your use of Veg oil for the tax man, as fuel duty still has to be paid on it.

This vehicle is way under the 2500 litres per annum cut-off, so no need to log it.

And red is faster ;)

Being serious about the veg oil, how much does it actually smell ?

Driving along, not at all. But with the wind going a certain way you often catch a whiff when waiting at a red light, etc. Just gives me a bit of an appetite, thats all :D

Had 3 of these for moving unwanted visitors to the UK from airport to airport. 120mph indicated on the M6 from a 8 seater 2.0hdi wow!

  • Author

This will NOT do 120mph :D Gearing is ultra high - 75mph is about 3,000rpm, so you're looking at a max flat-out speed of about 100mph tops I think. Its a 1.9 engine, just not sure which variation. Plus its not the fastest accelerating thing, but then its reliable, clean, works, and runs on "good stuff"

what have you done.... I don't care how much money you are saving - Just pause, take a moment and actually look at what you are driving :smirk:

Is this a wind up?

cracking motor.

When i get my hands on a supercar one day. I'll be having one of these as my daily driver to offset the costs!

1.9... it must be an XUD or if it has a turbo XUDt.

Nope - but then when you break your own car, beggers can't be choosers when it comes to the courtesy car given. :D

It is turbo (thank god) so XuDT it must be. :D

Lmao, so will you be taking this one to the "no burger ring?"

Yeah, the XUDT with the Bosch injection pump will run fine on veg oil :D ; The Lucas pump will grenade though!!

Rather walk would you?

I had a old 106 once when mine packed up, looked like the roof had been washed with sand paper lol

Matt

That's brilliant Jase - well played!

If you play with the injection pump, you can get it putting out a good amount of puff too.

Most important thing for running on Veg is regular fuel filter changes and to have a look and see if you have the fuel pre-heater fitted or not.

If you do, then winter will be fine on a veg/derv mix and if not you'll have to be careful when it gets cold.

New air filter is a doddle and will make a good difference to the engine. Ditto for an oil change with a good 10w-40 semi or fully synth.

a place i worked in the past had the van version of these fairly shifted even when loaded with some stuff i had to deliver over the west coast
