Octavia FL front & rear speaker upgrade

Featured Replies

After not being able to face the harsh speakers in my 2011 FL Octavia anymore i've decided to upgrade them. The sound makes me feel nauseous at high volumes. I have the Skoda Columbus HU so won't be upgrading that, i'm not looking for huge sounds just more clarity and quality at a reasonable level with a view to maybe amping it at a later date.

I was going to get a local Car Audio place in Leicester to do it all for me but their vagueness on price put me off, they wouldn't give me a figure until it was all done, and i wasn't inspired by the sales assistant at all.

So this leaves me to do it myself, which i'm capable of doing, just couldn't be bothered. Looking on other threads I couldn't see a definitive answer to what pods I need for the front and if I need any at all at the rear, i've narrowed the front ones down to the SAK-3108, are these the right ones and do i need any for the rear?

For the wiring i was going to use CT55-08 speaker adaptors.

The aim was to spend around £100 on components for the front and less on some coaxials at the rear knocking off the rear tweeter.

Topping this all off with a dose of Dynamat or similar, the aim is to get Noisekiller installed later on this year.

Has anyone got any recommendations on speakers and potential limitations on depths for both front and rear.

I listen to mainly indie music and 5live if that helps.

Thanks in anticipation....

I doubt any speaker upgrade would benefit an AM 5live!

Good luck with what you're doing though.

I know what you mean, it was more a point that I listen to spoken word and indie rather than banging house etc. ;)

I don't intend to change the H/U as mentioned. I just want to get rid of the crap speakers. Surely I can gain some improvement.

As I've stated in the other thread, that the OEM head unit is factory set on the cross over points/slopes, etc for the factory speakers! I don't know the sizes for your speakers but look on this site!

http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/25/131/201/overview.html

It doesn't have specifics for your car either, but standard speakers of the right size will fit.

Only if the bass speaker is a small 10cm dia is it worth changing from OEM!! I have used the Pioneer speakers in the rear of my car as the OEM were 10cm dia and carp. The fronts sound alot better since I fitted a Pioneer headunit as I have total control over the cross-overpoints, slopes, etc!! B)

Slopes and crossover points? Do you feed your tweeters and mids with a different cable from the H/U then?

No, I use the standard cables......trying to remember the correct technical explanation....Right here goes.....

I have Bass, Mid, and Treble sound settings (three main points). For each one of these I can increase or decrease the gain value by 6 points. I can adjust the centre point frequency that is called Bass, Mid, and treble (there are four different frequencies for each of those three main points). I can also adjust the "drop-off" or over-lap slope for each of the three main points from steep to shallow in four points!....I also have separate bass boost control, separate sub woofer controls etc......so not really a cross over network...more like complex equalizer system!!
