how can you tell if the cambelt has been changed?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I recently purchased a fabia 1.4 16v from the dealer, the serviced manual do not show the cambelt has been changed before from the service history. They offered to do the change before I pick up the car with 2 years warranty included for the part. My question is recently the car seems to be vibrating a bit too heavy when it is stationary, so my suspicion is they haven't changed the belt(if that is linked together. The car is still under skoda warrenty.

Thanks

Chun

I have heard previously that somebody had the same problem after their cambelt was changed, and it was because it was a tooth out of alignment.

My advice would be to take it back to skoda while it's still under warranty.

So it sounds like they have changed it but the teeth is out of line. Hope its a simple fix and I give them a ring in the morning.

thanks mate

When I had my first cambelt change (same engine) I drove it about 2 miles down the road from the dealership then straight back as it was sounding like a lumpy drag-strip racer at idle sitting at the traffic lights! Turned out it was a faulty (new) tensioner for the belt between the two camshafts!!! :o

I manage to call the dealer today but unfortunately they can only fit me in on Friday and the the downside is I'm at work. So it's going to be the week after. Initially I didn't realise the vibration until my sister was complaining about it while sitting in the back. It's bugging me since she told me. Hahaha. The idling is fine and noise level seems fine too so hope it's easy to resolve.
