Gear Ratios?

Featured Replies

does anyone know the gear ratios of the fabia vRS

New and old?

becuase I'm going to try work out the best time to shift to get the most torque using the graph from the Seat Ibiza flyer

Next I will probably need a mph per 1,000rpm for each gear

All the info you need should be here

:D

I posted a spreadsheet with the details in it here.

cheers for that lot

know has anyone seen a torque curve for the 130 tdi pd engine?

lost mine and wonder if there was anything online?

There's a miniscule one on the Engine description of the VRS Microsite at skoda.co.uk.

Here's my RR plot from when the car was about 4000 miles old, and bog standard:

so If I have got this right (rough estimates)

to get the best 0-100 time you want to change gear at these points

1st changing to 2nd at just under 3,500 rpm

2nd to 3rd just under 3,000rpm

3rd to 4th about 2,750rpm

4th to 6th about 3,000rpm seems like 5th is just a wasted Gear when you really push it

also you hit 60 in 4th so staying in 3rd would get you a better 0-60 time

but not better at higher speeds

anyway thats just estimates and my maths is probably all wrong could anyone clarify these results?

I tried a 0-60 run like you said (remapped) 1st gear change at 3,500. second at 3,000 and 3rd up to 3,500 but it is slower than going full throttle to 4,000 rpm (timed about seven times as a few were close runs), I think this is because you are changing gear less and on mine anyway, the 195 bhp is at full pelt @ 3,800 rpm, so you go from a smooth 300 lb/ft of torque into a sharp 195 horsepower. Changing below then only seems to miss a lot of the "ultimate" power out, although there was only a 10 mph difference to 100 mph and I averaged 36 mpg on the origonal run and 22 mpg on the full throttle runs, so a big saving in fuel for not much gain in performance.

I think the Furby will record faster times by taking it just over 4,000 rpm in each gear... I find anything up to 4,200 good enough, past that is totally pointless... however in normal driving I find that its just as satisfying to use the middle range of the revs... about 2,500 - 3,500 rpm.

right, why did you put in your post - does anyone know the gear ratios of the fabia vRS

New and old?

???????????

new and old? arrrrgh, im being told diferent things by diferent people, how many versions or the VRs are there???

The gear ratios were modified in '04 so any cars built after that will have the revised shorter ratios. :D

if your just doing a 0-60 then your best time will be if you use 3rd upto high revs becuase of changing gear

so the best thing to think is what speed do you want to end up at and change the gears according to best torqueand the last gear if it can reach the aquired speed then stay in that one

so 0-20 times stay in 1st

0-30, 0-40, 0-45 1st then change into 2nd at just under 3,500 rpm and stay in 2nd

0-50, 0-60, 0-65 1st then change into 2nd at just under 3,500 rpm then 2nd to 3rd just under 3,000rpm and stay in 3rd

0-70, 0-80, 0-90 threw the gears and stay in 4th

0-100 threw the gears and skip 5th as you seem to have more torque from 6th at around 1,900rpm than 5th around 2,300rpm

soo as long as the gear your in has the legs to get to the speed you want then stay in gear otherwise or if your quick at changing gear then change at the rpm I said before

I tried it last night and found it threw me into the back of my seat more not sure about the skipping 5th idea yet but thats what the figures seem to show

(thats changing from 4th to 6th when your at about 65mph)

and actually it seems the best 0-20 time can be acheived in reverse

if anyone understands my madness they deserve a medal

I disagree about the car seeming to have more torque at 1900 than 2300... 1900 is too low revs for effective acceleration in mine, its right at the point where the turbo seems to kick in. Definitely more torque at about 2200 to 2500 rpm for me, and other peoples dyno plots seem to confirm this.

  • Author

must be some other difference then in the vRSs because mine feels more at 1,900rpm

Come to think of it, look at Bryands power plot... that seems to suggest the same to me, that peak torque is at over 2000 rpm...

I dont deny what yours is like, but both mine and the other vRS I drove seemed to have most of the torque at about 2100-2200 onwards roughly...

that was the graph i was using and aim to change into 2,000rpm worked out best at the different speeds

we need some exact figures to work out the exact places to change

I'm sure -60, 0-100 runs would be best done by using all of the gears, just remember to turb ASR off otherwise you wont get the power down.

0-100 times would be quicker with ASR off but leave it on in real world because allthough you'll have a slower speed the distance you would travel in the time would be further (i think)
