Ah waking up a V6 owner! (long)

Featured Replies

Hi All

First a big thanks to all of you for your support and kind words on the build up to yesterday.

Ok so yesterday;the original plan was to collect 'The Beast' from Allams around 11am but a call from James on Thurs informed me that they had the wrong elec conector for the tow bar. Not an issue, was glad of the later start as did not finish work until gone 2 that night.

Friday morning with time on my hands, did the weekend shop (please no one scrape my Audi in Tesco car park) then mobile rings, its James another slight delay :wonder: but confirms will be ready for 3pm

Set off in super cautious mode, don't want to break my trade in and its a slow, traffic full, journey to Allams its only 20 odd miles but took over 90 mins (love London traffic).

We arrive (oh took wife, always good to have a second set of eyes and someone to remind me of those questions I need to ask)

No sign of "The Beast' on arrival  so in to see James and sort my trade in  .

There is a Superb estate in show room in the Steel Gray colour (170 DSG Elegance if anyone wants one). Wife loves the colour :wait: Does look and smell lovely.

James made the coffee, sat us down and the handover began. There was a problem  while fitting the dog guard one of the fittings broke and as another could not be sourced James offered to send a Tec to my home next week to finish the job.

Ok not good about the broken fitting but as I always say, 'its not the problem its how you deal with the problem that matters', James did well, he apologised and offered a solution, job done.

Paperwork all sorted, walk outside and there it is!!!!!!!!!

Looks stunning in the sunshine, Black is the Best colour! (well for the first 5 mins after its washed!).

Do the walk around (could not have looked closer with a microscope), looking for any marks or scratches :o found a couple of minor marks, but detailing guy wiped these away with his magic spray.

James then, very patiently explained all the controls and functions of car. He paired my wifes I Phone 4 to car (took several attempts to get music to stream to the cars audio via Bluetooth but James sorted it (I would have been swearing in frustration ). He paired my key to seat, set mirrors to fold in and we were good to GO!!

Thats when James dropped a Bombshell!! He wants me to pay

So back in, hand over my debit card, and 20 seconds later I became a poorer (but Happy) man.

Back to MY car, start 'The Beast' first impression is how quiet it is, my old Audi was a noisy old lump. Drive out from garage and the next thing I notice is a combination of great ride, firm but not harsh and the feeling of the power under my right foot

Red Dog had told me about the brakes and to take care, OMG just a gentle push and you would think you had dropped an anchor out the back (the Police use the V6 and its one of the few cars they don't upgrade the brakes on, I know why). The front discs are Huge, only fitted to V6 but not mentioned in any brochure.

Decided to call on my brother who lives about 5 miles from Allams, 15mins into trip (oh that Friday eve traffic) wife asked "where is the tax disk?" Its nowhere to be seen, so ring James, phone system works great, Its on his desk! He offers to bring it to us  but I am enjoying the car so swing round, collect and onto brother for what was to be a cup of tea but turned into dinner.

Drive home was a dream, everything worked as it should and brought a smile to my face.

Now I know all you oil burners with your noisy old diesels want to know about fuel consumption. Well I did not buy the V6 to be a cheap to run car but something I wanted and could enjoy to the full and having owned diesels before wanted to go back to petrol (plus did not want the DPF problems)

So, on the journey to Allams in my Audi I reset the trip computer and it indicated 19MPG average speed 12mph!!!!! The V6 on the trip back did 24.1 at 17mph.

This is on a brand new tight engine in traffic so I am happy. I know that the on board computer is not that accurate but its fine for this comparison.

So my thoughts on V6

Dislikes

Wife hates the heated front screen causing on coming lights to star shape.

She liked the Steel Grey colour more than black.(women!)

Catch to open bonnet awkward, Audi much better.

The carpets are rubbish!! more like a bit of old felt, glad I got mats.

Allams Key Rings are crap, nasty blob of plastic, Audi had nice leather and metal ones, please note James (send me some better ones if you have them please I don't mind a free gift)

Likes

Power (not been over 3,00rpm yet but still its a rocket ship).

Brakes, best on any car I have owned including an S class Merc and several hot hatches

Ride, amazed considering its on 18in wheels.

Fit and finish, Audi quality (apart from carpet).

Headlights brilliant.

Space in back.

Seats are soooooo comfortable beat the Audi by 100% and I have been driving the Audi over 9 years (my bum must be too small 4 Audi seats despite my 14 stone)

Seat memory

Door mirrors, huge like All Roads

Torch and umbrella - Yes both were in car.

V6 - not a car for everyone, especially if you do a large mileage, but for someone looking for a reasonably priced, high speed express (estate) with real quality at real world price I think its hard to beat. Just accept you will pay for your pleasure.

Time to go, I need another fix of V6 after writing this novel !!!!!!!!!!

You sound as happy as me!

Just one thing, my diesel ain't noisy, it's smooth, refined and powerful, quieter than the 320d was and did an indicated 48 mpg on the way back :D

Agree re door mirrors, nice to have ones that allow you to actually see behind!

It did sound very cool as you pulled away by the way!

My view is based mainly on my old Audi  that was not smooth refined or quiet but it was (quite) powerful.

I test drove the 170 diesel and it was not bad at all (but still an oil burner :giggle: )

The S class Merc I use at work is good but this V6 is better B) . Now Mr Skoda how about a Superb VRS with a V8 :p

Cool, I'm really pleased for you and you sound like your loving it, also James at Allams sounds like a rare breed in the car trade.

Wish I placed my order with him.

Get some pics up and most importantly enjoy it, I'm waiting for the phone call for mine. 2.5 weeks since being built

If you're as pleased as I am... you'll be 'nipping' out for a quick fix every day

I'm even slightly jealous... well, only until I look at my ave consumption... Ticking over at a nice 49mpg at the moment (I know they read over, but it's only done 300 miles so it can only get better... I'll calibrate it one day).

Oh, and I'm afraid you wife is right (they usually are)... Steel Grey IS the best colour ;)

Enjoy your motor!!!!!!

Told you so!!

Top Man. You sound a happy fella!

Enjoy.

Phil

52.4mpg after 900 miles from display.best for single trip so far 64.2

I don't think you'll ever fit a V8 into a Superb... I can't think of a larger engine in the VW Group that is mounted the right way round to fit into the Superb. I bet someone, somewhere would fit a supercharger to it though. Although that would be entirely ridiculous.

Glad you are enjoying your new Superb. How many hundreds of miles will you cover this weekend, just for the sake of it?

Torch???? you got a Torch!!! gutted :o

Sounds lovely motor only seen one V6 on the road, whish I had one!

Glad you are enjoying it

  • 1 month later...

Hi,

Hows the V6 after a month. My 1.8dsg was ordered a week after yours at Allams and I expect to pick up in next 10 days or so. Few comments on Forum re quality of leather and carpets, a bit of concern for me as I intend to hold on to the car. My BMW is 9 years old and carpets and seats are still very good. What do you think of the leather?

Hamro

It did sound very cool as you pulled away by the way!

I wish you were my dealer James.

Too far away. Having real issues with Skoda oop north.

Phil

Happy bunny! Sounds fantastic. Got to agree about the carpets. They are crap and should not be on Skoda's flagship model.

You will love driving in the dark. The lights are the best on any car I have owned.

Let's see some pix of The Beast!

Enjoy, Phil
