is this phone ok for the Octy Bluetooth?

Featured Replies

I don't believe either of them have rSAP or would be able to use the rSap app from the Android Market since that is only compatible with htc phones.

Not wishing to be rude but Android operating system can be a bit complex for those that aren't into fancy phones! Also if you are going pay as you go you need to be careful as smartphones can use a lot of mobile data services that can be expensive.

Probably best to stick with the Nokia for rSAP.

I think you may be right

Stick with the Nokia

I have paired an HTC Desire (after a short period of problems) which seems to be behaving itself, although I haven't looked at the phonebook or SMS functionality yet.

And I have paired a bog-standard non-smart Nokia 6301 phone. This went like a dream. paired, connected, downloaded phonebook very quickly and no probs.

So if you have a choice and want straight forward phone functionality, I would go with a dead cheap Nokia personally.

My Scout is April 2010 and it got only GSMIII, but i installed a GSMIII+ module due to having got a Iphone 4 from work and also have a HTC TouchHD WinMobile which works on rSap superbly. As VRS DSG said, there is no comparison between rSap and HFP as rSap is supreme in quality, thought with HFP you should be able to play music through Bluetooth.

Well, My sons iPhone4 connects in my car so am I to assume it has GSM111+ fitted?

That'll be a big fat yes! GSM III+ it is. IPhone doesn't support rSAP.

GSM III+ is great for increased compatibility but honestly rSAP connectivity is the way to go if you can.

OK

Got the Nokia C3-01 today

Connected no problem

Phone book loaded.

Still no text,,

I am confused emoticon-0145-shake.gif

Does the maxidot say premium next to the Bluetooth symbol when the phone is connected?

If not then the connection is HFP, you might need to activate rSAP in the phones Bluetooth settings or something similar.

The Nokia C3 01 definitely has remote SIM mode (rSAP). See page 34 of the manual.

From experience the car will first try rSAP & if no connection is made it will then use HFP. You must switch the car off before trying to connect again to get an rSAP connection and 'Premium' displayed.

Keep at it my friend, it WILL work!

Does not say premium on maxidot.

Just copied this from the C3-01 Manual

With remote SIM mode, a compatible car ki

t can use the SIM card of your device.

Select

Menu

‾

Settings

‾

Connectivity

‾

Bluetooth

.

Before you can activate remote SIM mode, yo

u must first pair your device and the car

kit.

1To activate Bluetooth on your device, select

Bluetooth

‾

On

.

2Activate Bluetooth in the car kit.

3Follow the instructions on th

e display of your device.

In remote SIM mode, only the car kit

is connected to the cellular network.

To make or receive calls when in remote

SIM mode, you need to have a compatible

accessory, such as a car kit,

connected to your device.

Your device will only allow emergency calls in this mode.

Remote SIM mode is automatically deactivated when the car kit is switched off, for

example, when you switch off the car engine.

Manually deactivate remote SIM mode

1Select

Paired devices

.

2Select the car kit, and from

the pop-up menu, select

Delete pairing

That is the page I just read. It basically agrees entirely that the phone works with an rSAP compatible device, ie ur Octy!

You need to follow the bit after that about connecting automatically also to allow the car automatic Bluetooth access to the phone.

Your car is connecting in HFP mode. Just keep trying. Maybe delete the pairing and re-pair it again. As I said earlier the car will always try for rSAP first and then HFP if rSAP fails to connect so I suspect the phone may not have been ready when the car was trying rSAP. Pure guess work on my part as obviously I'm not there to see!

Make sure the phone is ready and then switch the cars ignition on. I am positive that the phone is rSAP compatible and ur car definitely is. I don't know enough about Nokia handsets to tell you more since my HTC is the only phone I've ever connected to my car. Good luck & keep us posted.

I think you may have struck on something there ( in bold )

When I was pairing them today I had the ignition on.

Phone on..But bluetooth was turned off in the phone..I turned on BT and they connected, so as you arre suggesting possibly they connected in HFP mode and now automatically connect in this method.

I will delete tomorrow and re-pair with phone fully ready this time

Will post back tomorrow with some (hopefully|) good news.

Thanks for your help emoticon-0148-yes.gif

You may not need to re-pair even. First just try turning the phones Bluetooth on and then the car to let them connect and see if that works. If not then delete the pairing (from the car first. It needs to be connected to the device to delete it).

When I say the car tries to connect by rSAP and then HFP if you get an HFP connection you have to switch the ignition off & remove the key for the car to drop the Bluetooth connection & reset the car kit. Ie it only searches for an rSAP connection for a known device once at switch on & then uses HFP every time until you remove the ignition key.

Fingers crossed for you.

Try this, the way i did with a new phone yesterday:

1. Turn the ingition on.

2. Switch BT on your phone, make sure it's visible, accepts all connections, remote SIM on, whatever it has on its BT profile

3. Search for Phone from your car-kit

4. Phone found, accept connection from Skoda_BT to phone, eenter 4 x 4 digit PIN's on the phone that are displayed on your car.

5. Connection made, you see phone connected, probably in HFP mode.

6. Turn ignition off. Take key off the ignition.

7. Wait a minute, ignition on, Phone should connect with rSap, new address book found, phone will be asked to allow access, and copied into the car.

Good call CEPi, I would have liked to have been able to be that explicit myself but it's been ages since I paired my phone & I'm using my mobile to post on here so it's not easy!

The only thing I will add is that once paired the phone should always have Bluetooth on & be ready to connect before you turn the car on. If the car doesn't see the phone quick enough it will default to HFP. Sometimes gsm III+ is a curse!

I have just read your post in the thread regarding not having the sharkfin aerial, I'm starting to wonder if your cars Bluetooth kit is different seeing as they are standard kit in Ireland and hence might not be the premium kit.

I had my phone paired to the car & had been using it via HFP for months and then installed the rSAP app on my phone, after that it just used rSAP automatically, there was no need to even re-pair. I think you are going need to find out which Bluetooth module you have in your car. Apparently they are fitted under the passenger seat. There are threads on here that give you part no's so it would be good to see if you can match any of them.

Sorry if I might have given you misleading info, I had no idea that your car was an Irish one or that the Irish cars might be different. :S

I was beginning to think that myself.

I am totally lost as to how this is happening.

but upon reading the owners manual today ( The car one)

The display on my Maxidot doesnt give me some options that it was suggesting.

ie. Messages etc.

Then i was thinking perhaps it needs some VCD coding to enable these options?

I am going to ring the dealer on Monday and enquire.I may be able to contact the mechanic that looks after these issues over the weekend

No worries about any misleading info, It is hard for you to visualize this from where you are emoticon-0148-yes.gif

But even looking at the pics posted by CEP1, His display looks a lot different than mine.

Here is a pic of the Bolero

One of the Maxidot

Top line is Signal Bar

Then Service provider

under here then normally i have 3 icons

from the left:

Battery

Bluetooth

and i assume phone ?? << Not sure

But if you look you will see another icon between icon 1&2.

This I have no idea as to what it is as it only started appearing today AFTER I choose to update my phone bookemoticon-0108-speechless.gif

Then at times i can access this reading

again I have no idea as to what it is..emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

That third icon!

That's the one I've been asking about on a different (Superb II) forum.

I called it the "Scroll Wheel iPod" icon. Would it possibly signify that you can use the phone as a media player over the BT connection, somehow?

Puss

@Puss You can use the phone as a media player. I haven't done this though so don't know how! Maybe under media on the Bolero/columbus??

@vectra1 Yours is totally different, mine is the same as CEPi's.

I'm sure I've read on these forums that Irish spec Octavias only have GSM II not GSM III so it will not have rSAP connection even if your phone does.

It seems a strange omission by the Irish importer not to spec it with GSM III. In my experience the connection and signal quality are superb

You are correct. The signal quality is superb.

BUT

If it is only GSM11... Would an iPhone 4 connect to it as my sons Iphone4 connects fine

Me again.

Contacted my dealer about tthis and they looked into it. They claim it has to go on the "Machine" Vcd and something has to be renamed. ( I think the module has to be changed from SKODA_BT to SKODA_PREMIUM)

We shall see. I may get to them next week or so..

My Nokia connected as BT name "SKODA_BT" and as an rSAP connection with the Premium[bT logo] on the maxidot.

My HTC Desire connected as BT name "SKODA_BT" and an HFP connection with just the [bT logo] (and the media player logo) on the maxidot.

Ok... its a columbus unit in a Superb, but the phone both pair on the same name by default.
