2lit pd engine

Featured Replies

Hi i am currently testing two stroke oil in the fuel too see if it reduces engine noise but i forgot to do a decibel sound test before i started.Can anybody test there car and tell me what the reading is with the engine ticking over and the meter in front of the grill.And also inside the car at 2500 revs.i am sure the engine a lot quieter but just want to check with other members. using app from my iphone mine is reading 70 ticking with meter in front of the grill and 70 at 2500 revs in the car

thanks bill

Does the 2.0 pd not have a DPF? I 'm sure that it does... In that case you may on thin ice !!

Discussed already here :wonder:

Still has a cat though , burning oil WILL mess that up , got to be one of the most stupid things i have read on a forum

The CAT is irrelevant for diesels anyway so it does not matter if it gets contaminated.

Really? You don't think that not identifying the fact that diesel fuel IS burning oil beats it?

never mind the rights and wrongs.can someone give me a decibel reading from a pd or cr engine.

Don't have the app on my Blackberry Torch, Bill, sorry. :(

Not looked at mot regs recently then ??

Using a super accurate iphone app;) and comparing a 170cr Superb with a 170pd Octavia from the cabin

Both from cold

Superb

Idle= 55db

Holding 2500rpm = 65db

Octavia

Idle = 57db

Holding 2500rpm - 67db

Both cars dyno comparisons

Petrol engines burn oil as well but large amounts of it left over after combustion will knacker a cat

hi rich thanks for the reply,i thought the cr engine was a lot quieter than pd diesel but on those readings there is hardly any difference.

2 Stroke adds Smoke :D

Two strokes engines only smoke if the mix is incorrect.i have a 100hp two stroke engine on my boat which is oil injected and that never produces any smoke at idle or maximum revs.only incorrect fuel mix produces smoke

Petrol engines burn oil as well ....

I'm so tired of this. You know full well that the incidental burning of engine oil that has somehow got past the piston rings (or entered the combustion chamber in another way) is totally different from what is being discussed here.

Diesel fuel is oil (or perhaps you want to dispute that as well?) and diesel engines work by exploding it by under extreme pressure. It is refined sufficiently so that it doesn't break down or cause pollution beyond certain limits (50 ppm maximum limit on sulphur content of both petrol and diesel as well as a 35% vol. Max. aromatics content of petrol. Additionally, this revision specified further changes to sulphur contents, these being a reduction to 10 ppm max. sulphur for both petrol and diesel, the new limits came into force for all fuel marketed from in December 2009). Diesel fuel is covered by BS EN 590:2004.

The marine two-stroke oil that both bill2 and I use is manufactured to NMMA TC-W3 specification and is added to the diesel fuel at a ratio of 1:240 (0.416%). Those are the facts as I know them to be.

I have already offered to perform ANY test thought valid, using my latest VCDS for comparison to any statistic so produced by mine and any other comparable-mileage 170CR diesel engine that has never had such additive used. No-one has suggested what statistic(s) are relevant, nor accepted the offer. Several people have opinions based on conjecture, what "might happen under warranty," etc., etc. There must be a sufficient number of knowledgeable people who read these posts to offer alternative FACTS, if they exist, but I never will be impressed or influenced by any statement not supported by evidence.

I sincerely doubt that such a low ratio of additive would be detectable by any instrument so as to void any warranty claim - although I cannot imagine what claim could possibly take place resulting from such additive - and NO-ONE can offer evidence of one or even suggest one. The TC-W3 oil is extremely low ash, so produces no visible (or - I suspect - measureable) difference in fume output.

My 170CR engine runs quieter since the addition of the TC-W3. I am prepared to pay the small additional cost involved to continue using it and I believe it is beneficial to the mechanical surfaces of a number of components. I - of course - have only my excellent hearing to support this claim, but I will stop using the additive for ever once someone produces evidence to the contrary. I will not be holding my breath in anticipation. :)

In summary - prove once and for all that it does any harm whatsoever - IN ANY WAY - or get off the pot!
