2 part cooling system question

Featured Replies

Hey guys. The cooling fluid in my Fabia is disgusting. I apologise for the photos. :(

As you can see the actual reservoir (Coolant ball) is stained and unreadable. There's a residue visible on the end of the cap and also in the expansion tank itself as you can see.

The car runs fine and in terms of the cooling, the temp needle goes to the middle (operating temp) after about 20 minutes of driving and then never beyond, essentially quit normal. I'm still worried so...

1: Is there a chance it isn't that serious... or is it basically a blown head, start shopping for another car :'( ?

The plan is to flush the tank, fill with water, run for 2 minutes, flush that (to clean it out), replace the combustion tank and then refill, so the next question is...

2: Is this the rite coolant for the car. (G30, red stuff)

If it's not overheating, it's probably not the head gasket.

This suggests that some 'sole has put some glycol in it instead of G12(+) at some point, so it needs flushing completely.

Not exactly sure on that bottle, but so long as it says G12+ or G12++ then yes it's the right stuff.

I've always bought it from the dealer as it's far far cheaper than buying it from Halfrauds believe it or not.

Do you reckon that stuff I have in the 3rd image will be ok to refill the system with?

Hard to be certain from that photo but I'd say no, you need G12+ or G12++ which is pink or purple
