Transferring shop bought CDs to SD card

Featured Replies

How do you do it as I would like to put loads of tunes via SD card onto my MFD3 in mp3 format I am running windows 7 home premium

Please explain with diagrams if possible as I am useless with a PC

You can use Windows Media Player to do it.

Make sure you go into WMPs options for ripping and set it to MP3, then insert CD and rip the tracks. Then copy and paste the files to the SD

I'm not at home now bu I will try to sort out some screenshots to illustrate.

Yep what Mike said

WMP will do it - as will any free "CD Ripper" you can download (i use this one myself)- or possibly iTunes

Essentially it'll take the CD Audio tracks and turn them into MP3's.

Which you can then put on the SD card and stick in your car.

You don't have to turn them into MP3's, as the SD card reader will also play WMA files.

My card has a mixture of both on it and it doesn't phase it at all.

MP3 is the most compatible with other players though, iTunes won't play WMA for instance.

Agreed, but we are talking about the in-car player.

I don't have anything else.

Thanks for that Mike will wait for screen shots as I don't want to mess up

Right, here's a simple guide on what to do (I got bored revising! :nerd:)

Firstly, load the CD and fire up Media Player. Then go the Rip Music options tab. (In Media player, press 'alt' on the keyboard. Choose Tools, then Options')

Set it to mp3. Quality is up to you - the better the quality the fewer you'll fit on. I'd go for 256+ personally.

Then choose Rip CD:

If the CD names don't appear, right click a song and choose 'Get info' and choose the relevant disk on the pop-up screen.

Clicking Rip Music will bring up this screen: You don't want copy protection. ;)

Now find the songs in Media Player under Music. Choose the ones you want by highlighting them (hold down left mouse and drag over the wanted songs.)

Right click the songs and choose 'Add too' - 'Sync List'

They should now appear on the right of the window under the SD card info.

Then choose start Sync which will copy them over.

To check - go to my Computer - choose the SD device, and then click on the Music folder. They should be in there.

Hopefully the car will see those. If not, once ripped - find them on the PC and drag them onto the SD card. To do that, right click a song in Media player - and choose Open File Location.

Then open the SD card in another window. Then drag the files from the PC to the SD card.

Hope that helps!

Joe.

Wow Many thanks Triggerfish that will help no end

No worries. It might put them into a folder the HU doesn't recognise, in which case they'll need moving, but having never done this myself, I'm not sure how the radio will want the files arranged. Easy enough to test, if it plays, its worked, if it doesn't, they'll need moving.

Well I tried to follow the instructions using the screen shots but I lost it

But good news as I already had media go on the comp, I did not know until I read through whats other programs I did not know I had, I tried that and it worked

Now on the RNS 510 it only shows the album name not the list of songs on them, how do you put them on so that all the song titles show

Dont laugh but I still look for button B in the phone box
