Thrust bearing

Featured Replies

I have just noticed when depressing the clutch there is a 'whirring' noise, as if something is still spinning? After doing a bit of research i'm thinking it is most likely to be the thrust bearing emoticon-0106-crying.gif

My questions are as follows:

Do i need to replace the whole clutch or just the bearing?

Is the car safe to drive?

How much would i be looking at for a thrust bearing?

Been looking at Helix clutches, found Awesome sell them but I notice that is for the ASZ engine, mines a 2007 BLT.... Does this make a difference... This is the one:

Thanks guys, hope it's nothing too serious!

Certainly sounds like thrust bearing, they last very well considering the work they do. Repacing whole clutch depends on milleage, as the gear box has to be removed it is always advisable to replce complete, also if you have DMF might be worth changing for solid.

The engine only has 43,000 miles on it :-/ I haven't changed the flywheel so i assume it is a DMF?

Agreed; it's a job where I'd budget for doing the lot, but would take "what actually gets replaced" under advisement until the box is off and you can see things like how worn the friction plate is and whether or not the DMF is over-heated.

I would save you for a new clutch too. My thrust bearing has been whirring for over a year with no affect on the running of the car.
