Looking for Fabia Vrs

Featured Replies

Greetings members,

My hunt for a fabia Vrs has brought me to sign up to briskoda. Just wanted to ask a couple of questions, firstly, what should we look out for? Are they reliable cars? Especially over 100k or remapped? optional extras?

Thanks in advance people.

hey mate welcome to briskoda,

the fabias are very reliable cars, mine has just hit the 100,400K mark and its going well, ive only owned this car for a couple of months and no signs or unreliabity. take alook at the main fabia 1 forum topic list for the small common and easy fix problems.

Welcome Tony.

You'll find loads of info on here to assist your hunt.

In short(ish) from my point of view:

Are they relaible? Yes. As with many cars there are niggles. With the fabia vRS Mk1 - Leaky rear doors, the heater resistor pack, to name a few.

I have owned my 2003/03 model since it had 17k on the clock with Skoda UK owning it before me. I had it remapped at around 35k to run 175ish BHP and it ran happily on the original standard turbo and clutch upto 135k miles.

Turbo blew at this stage and I have since covered a further 10k sporting a hybrid turbo, FMIC, uprated clutch etc and 200+BHP.

Optional Extras? Xenons were a factory fit option as were heated seats I believe. As well as ESP (ASR) as standard. Cruise control (can be retrofitted) and that's as much as I know.

If you're looking at a high miler check the cambelt and water pump has been serviced reguarly every 4 years or 60k.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys... going to be looking at a few in the next couple of weeks so i need all the advice i can get

How about a already tuned one, with forged front mount intercooler, remap etc. Is that asking for trouble or am i best of doing the modifications myself?

No that sounds a good start ...

Just budget in an uprated clutch and you'll be laughing

Buying a pre-modded car is fine, as long as it's done well and with the correct supporting mods (i.e. with a remap, you'll probably need a clutch as Jase says). I've just picked up a stage 2 hybrid vRS with a huge list of mods, for about the same price as some standard models. Granted, the milage on the clock is higher (85k against 40k in some cases) but then the turbo, FMIC, clutch, diff, coilovers, etc have all been done in the last 18 months and 20k or so so a lot of the major mechanicals are still virtually brand new. The paintwork isn't perfect, but then I'm not into detailing and do motorway miles every day, so tbh I could quite easily turn a minter of a Furby into something much less impressive anyway, so it doesn't really bother me and I've got it for a bargain compared to buying a standard car and getting the work done myself.

Will anyone have a set off coilovers?.. and is the standard ride bouncy?

Really appreciate your help guys.

Standard ride *can* be a touch crashy but generally a decent balance between firm and forgiving. Expect more body roll than you'd expect from a "performance" version though.

LOADS of topics on VRS buying in the search. Top things to check as well as FSH are for leaking rear doors and knackered console bushes creating knocking suspension sounds.
