A brief report on my New Yeti 170 Elegance which I collected yesterday afternoon.

Deborah of Telfords gave us a very detailed and efficient handover. I drove it straight home as it was a fine sunny day and I wanted to do some work on it during daylight hours. The journey home was fraught with complex roadworks and some atrocious driving behaviour on the short stretch of motorway I chose for ease of driving (!!) and I was glad to get it home in one unmarked piece. Only stalled it once while turning into filling station near home.

Immediate impressions - very nice indeed. Super imposing driving position and very easy to drive. Engine very slightly noisier than I expected but that is because I was relating everything to my late Octavia 1.8TSI DSG which was virtually silent. Anyway I need this slight extra noise to know when to change gear. Certainly quieter than any other diesel I have owned or driven. No complaints about the feel of the road - any jittering etc - I thought the road feedback was super.

At home I set about applying the supergard kit obtained from ebay at £9.50. I did a thorough job which took about 90 minutes. Still trying to work out the dealer prices. I then added a coat of Collinite 476S wax for additional whatever. I'm not into detailing but feel that the car is as well protected as it would have been had I chosen the dealer supagard option and my conscience re the car initial condition is now clear. I then arranged gap insurance for a replacement car (not invoice value but new car value) over a 4 year period. Felt better then.

Today I drove around a bit - to village shop and to the local pub for lunch. I find that the gear change indicator comes on later than when I would normally change when doddering along so I don't see them very often. No problem with too low revs when doddering. When driving in a "sporty" fashion I find that the gear change indicator gives no indication at all - it acts in a intuitive manner. Tried the park assist twice and messed up - for various reasons of my inexperience - it will be great when I get that right - and when nobody is looking. Found to my surprise that when I turn off the front proximity detectors the rear ones are switched off as well. The hand book I thought indicated that only the front ones turn off and the rear ones always on when reverse is engaged. Nearly found that out the hard way when reversing in a confined space. Need to investigate that further to confirm what I have just said. Also they seem to turn off permanently with the ignition and the button needs to be pressed again to get them going on next use of car. I could be wrong on all this so perhaps not too many protests ??

Today I tried to get my phone to connect with bluetooth only to find that bluetooth is missing on my car. Visited dealer and yes - it is missing and yes it should be there. Skoda being contacted to effect a remedy at our mutual convenience. It is one toy that I do want

Overall impressions are of a very high order. Never felt like this about any new car I have ever had before.

Fuel consumption looks promising. Maxidot 46mpg so far with some very erratic (test) driving and the instant readout on familiar roads compares favourably with that of the Fabia 1.9TDI we have just parted with.

Will know much more about how we feel after our trip to North West Scotland in 2 weeks time.

Nice report and GREAT photos there Yetiflute.

I'm curious, is the car brand new or second hand as it's on an '08' plate. Could be a private plate with your initials??

I'm going to wash & wax Ivor this weekend with my Karcher 'car wash' brush I purchased.

Brand new - private plates with initials. At the pub lunch with our village walking group today (I took Yeti !!) one villager said he had never seen a 3 year old car in better condition. I refrained from commenting.

:party::dance: Congrats Yetiflute I'm very jealous :dance::party:

Sadly, I feel I've got a very, very, long wait ahead of me :(

Congratulations on the new arrival. Looks very nice..!

Had to laugh about the attempt to use the park assist though, I bet it is really strange having to let technology take over your brain..lol

Pleased to see you have your new Monster at last, the muscavado/gobi with wood always looks very nice :)

emoticon-0106-crying.gif to hear that you've not got bluetooth; odd that one, normally miss fitting options not standard kit :wonder: mind I have seen two or three Yeti SE with the leather option but without seat heating which should be standard with a UK spec.

Regards,

TP

Transferred from my Octavia - fit nearly perfectly.

Nice yeti. Cannot wait until October when I will be able to place an order to replace my Leased Mondeo.

I question is the wood trim standard with gobi interior or did you spec this as an option?

That wood trim is not a UK Yeti option but it can be obtained mail order from Allams Skoda a Skoda dealer who supports this forum. It is very easily fitted - you can search this forum for discussions on that. I eventually persuaded my dealer to fit it free of charge during vehicle prep but would have had no hesitation doing it myself had I needed to.

A further amusing aside re maxidot mpg tonight. I was quite proud to obtain a maxidot recording of 46mpg for journeys involving considerate driving in reasonable conditions over the last 24 hours. This evening SWMBO took her first drive. She is a good driver but takes longer than me to adjust to a new vehicle. She took it around all sorts of narrow country roads, kept it in low gears most of the time, stalled it twice (I have done so as well) and in general not a satisfactory run for a good mpg - but who cares - one has to get used to the vehicle. I quietly looked at the maxidot record for the journey when she was out of the car and it was 48mpg. Er - I haven't told her yet !!

my swnbo is the same she keeps getting more mpg than me. and she rubs it in but someone has to clean the soot out of it

When I was out practicing for my IAM test I was getting mid 30's. On the test i got 40mph! I wasn't haggling around or using high gears either. It is almost as if using higher revs uses less fuelemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Possibly not 5000rpm higher revs through, but using the power band, which for Elsie the Helipad is 1500-5000rpmemoticon-0140-rofl.gif (thanks Ben)

On my Octavia 1.8TSI DSG I found that using the revs - reasonably discreetly - produced better fuel consumption that doodling along. However doodling along in our Fabia 1.9TDI seemed best for fuel consumption.

After Ben worked his magic on Elsie, she now drives more like a petrol, apart from running out of revs at 5000rpm. But with a mid range more like a Ferrari 599

Congratulations.

it seems that light-colored interior more suited to wood trim.

Hi Yetiflute

Lucky beggar!

Looks great and cetainly will be getting the wood effect on mine.

These pictures are a great reminder of my expectation!

Be interesting to see how it looks when its mucky perhaps after your trip to Mull which is on my list after my recent Outer Hebrides adventure. It would have been great to have done it in a Yeti.

Cheers

Peter

This might be a stupid question but which bits can be changed to wood trim? Saying dash board etc doesn't mean a thing to me since I don't have a Yeti yet (that's not a new model of Yeti :giggle:) to look at.

Hi - have a look at my Yeti interior photos P10202017.jpg and P1020215.jpg at the start of this thread. You will see on the first one a long strip of plastic wood effect trim and on the second photo a short strip of plastic wood effect trim. The standard trim on all cars is a plastic silverish coloured trim. The wood effect trim is not an orderable option with the car but can be obtained from Allams. Many people agree that it is particularly suitable with the Gobi sand finish but some people question its suitability with all black finish. I like it. If I grow to dislike it I can always put back the original trim now stored in my attic.

Yep, thanks, I now see where it all goes - cheers
