Mintex: Which grooved discs and pads?

Featured Replies

Few brake questions, I am considering upgrading soon to grooved discs and new pads by Mintex- I've got on well with Mintex in the past so will stick with them. Only difference this time is that I have an Octavia 1.8T MKI so if anyone has done this please let me know the results and if possible relevant parts Nos. Lastly would I need to upgrade the calipers if I go to Grooved discs, I want to stick with the standard sizes as I'm not changing a THING on this one that is likely to lead me down the slippery slope of mods!!

The best thing you could do is leave the standard discs on and go for some good pads!

by which i mean something like DS2500 and nothing by EBC!!!!!!

Groved discs dont give to anymore braking power or stop any quicker but you will get more noise and more vibration :thumbup:

lots of people recommend the brembo hc discs that you can get at gsf

Cheers everyone, will do. I've had Brembos on a few of mine over the years, but am trying to keep as standard as possible on this one. So will look into aftermarket pads then- Mintex. :thumbup:

If you haven't already got them, go for 312mm discs instead of the standard 4x4 288mm. Straight swap. :thumbup: Mintex standard pads are very good, had them on until last week when I changed my worn out X drilled discs, back to standard OEM spec. Not noticed any reduction in braking power or increased fade.

calipers are the same but dont you need the vrs carriers?

As far as I know , the 4x4 has the larger carriers as part of the 4x4 spec. Could be wrong, so stand corrected if so.

EDIT

Done a bit of searching around and would seem the carriers are different. Thanks OET. :thumbup:

Good guide here -> http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=87778.0

no worries dude, was gonna say am sure they are different.

However the calipers are 100% the same.

Carriers can be got easily on ebay and its well worth upgrading as you say to the 312mm size disc!! :thumbup:

If you upgrade the front calipers, I'd advise upgrading the rear calipers and discs asap

The single rear disc on the 4x4 is utterly inadequate. Upgrading the front will lead to the rears getting hotter.

I found mine were running 100 C hotter than the fronts
