A heartfelt thank you from me to you

On behalf of my big (6' 5") brother and me, I'd like to say a huge thank you to all of those who have taken the trouble to text or PM me, or post comments on my other thread - it really does mean a great deal, and shows what a great place an internet forum can be at a time like this

My reason for opening up a new thread was to ensure that my response wasn't 'lost' in my original thread, so once again, a big thank you to all of you

Death is nothing at all

I have only slipped away into the next room

I am I and you are you

Whatever we were to each other

That we are still

Call me by my old familiar name

Speak to me in the easy way you always used

Put no difference into your tone

Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow

Laugh as we always laughed

At the little jokes we always enjoyed together

Play, smile, think of me, pray for me

Let my name be ever the household word that it always was

Let it be spoken without effort

Without the ghost of a shadow in it

Life means all that it ever meant

It is the same as it ever was

There is absolute unbroken continuity

What is death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind

Because I am out of sight?

I am waiting for you for an interval

Somewhere very near

Just around the corner

All is well.

Nothing is past; nothing is lost

One brief moment and all will be as it was before

How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

Canon Henry Scott-Holland, 1847-1918, Canon of St Paul's Cathedral

this brought me great comfort when my father passed away.

i would like to think it could do the same for you.

Bry, you have loads of friends on here, so don't hesitate to chat when you want to.

We may hardly see each other face to face, but we are here!

And as you say what a ruddy fantastic community it is too!

Thoughts are with you mate

Big thanks bettsy for this - I used it as my reading at the funeral yesterday (Wednesday)

I managed to keep it together until the last couple of lines, when a few large gulps of air were required

The service itself was excellently conducted by a humanist celebrant recommended by the funeral directors, and went about as well as it could have gone

RIP Mum - we'll miss you greatly

I was sorry to hear about your Mum Bryan.

Likewise mate, and Dina was taken so young, it was a tragedy - best wishes to all the family
