Skoda favorit A/C

Featured Replies

Was thinking of putting air conditioning in my skoda favorit and would like to know how it is set up in the skoda Felicia. Pictures would be good as well.

excuse the pun but that would be cool. I was thinking about it yesterday whilst sweating away in my favorit.

Good luck with it if you manage it and make sure to post the results here. :-)

:giggle: that the norm for me too. worst i'm in the tropics. but yeah, i'll post the results here if and when i get it done.

Now then, back in the mid 90's I spent 3-4 months on a kibbutz in Israel. One of my jobs was to take either the Kibbutz favorit estate or pick up (They were brand spanking new at the time) to collect veg from the cash and carry. Both of these had AC, I seem to recall that it was the law to have AC in every car in Israel. Dunno if that was B S? (I was a young gullible lad back then!) But I think every car I went in there had AC. So, Favorits did leave the factory with AC, but only to certain countries I guess.

Here in Jamaica, that model Favorit washed avaible. However, i do think there were some Felicia's that came equipped with air conditioning.

Oh well.. seems like i'll just have to resort to something else.

a/c was definitely an option on a felicia in the uk, i've looked at putting it in my pickup but it's a lot of work.. there are a lot of bits which are unique to the models with a/c and they all need to be changed over (including the dashboard loom)

Even worse when you turn the fans on and all that's blowing into your face is hot air :(

Is there space with the Vtec engine though? :) I wonder if it's worth seeing what there is in terms of air conditioning designed to bolt onto your engine. I know absolutely nothing about air con. I presume the basic setup is a compressor which chills gas, and that passes through a matrix over which air blows? Something not far off a fridge.

not quite anewman, the compressor pushes the refrigerant into the condensor which condenses(fan assisted normally in front of the cooling system radiator) it down to a liquid.... ok think back to your physics days at school, temperature and pressure are directly related... the liquid is now forced to expand via an expansion valve into the evaporator which reduces the temp, then a blower pushes air over the evaporator into the cabin of the car... the gas is now fed back to the compressor to be compressed back into a liquid... i know i've over-simplified it but you get the basic idea

Remember the heater box is under the bonnet, so the evaporator and what not goes under there, along with a condenser in front of the rad etc.

Theres still space. The A/c compressor is still on the engine. If the outer part of the heater system (that black case-like thing that houses the blower motor) were removed the engine would still fit. What i was planning to do (if it could possibly work of course) is to replace the heater with an evaporator so the blower motor would be blowing through the evaporator... hence providing cool air.. Baring in mind i have no knowledge about air conditioning lol

Tom, AC was standard on the 1.6 SLXi I believe.

twasn't :wonder:
