Hello. New to forums. Wondering if anyone can help....

I have a Skoda Fabia 1.9 TDi 2003 (03) with 111,000 miles on the clock.

Vehicle suffering with none starting / stalling when warm. As soon as the temperature gauge goes over quarter, if you stop the engine and go to re-start you have to crank it over for 5-10 seconds. The longer you leave it, the more you have to crank it over (Bit like loosing fuel pressure). Also when warm engine stalls as no idle present, rev's just drop and engine stops. Then won't re-start or you have to keep cranking it over.

A tech has plugged in scanner and no fault codes are present.

If held at steady 3,000 rpm when running a lot of blue smoke emitted (Suspect diesel, not oil)

Garage fitted new fuel filter. No change to symptoms.

Have also pulled pipe off filter to check lift pump.

Are there any common problems this is pointing too....feels like fuel starvation, injectors, high pressure pump.....

Any help would be most appreciated.

Blue smoke is a typical sign of oil, black diesel. If no fault codes shown which seems quite normal, get your compressions checked, and wear on valves and guides.

Retired M V Tech.

Warm starting issues could also be glowplug related. But typically you'd have a fault code logged for that, if it were an issue.

You could check the MAF by just unplugging it, and seeing if things improve on the default air map. If they do, get a new proper MAF, not a Chinese Fleabay special. I'm suggesting this just because the check is free.

I've got a suspicion though that the problem may be the coolant temperature sensor on the EMS channel. I think this value can be inspected using a full VCDS.

Heard that coolant sensor was a common cause of this problem, so fitted one. Has not cured fault.

Fitted new thermostat and gasket for the fun of it too.

Vehicle cranks over fast and just won't fire, then suddenly your off! 10 - 30 seconds.

Can't really tell is fuel draining back or injectors not being told spray.

Bit of a pain all injectors etc inside rocker cover. I want to crack one off to see if pressure there when cranking!!! or even check voltage to injectors.

Does the new CTS have a green base? If not, then it may be faulty.

Also, having re-read the original query, lubricant smoke can be blue or white, depending on rate of use. Diesel smoke is virtually always white if the engine is dead cold, or black after about 30s running.
