SD card max capacity?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

anyone out there know what the maximum capacity of the SD card reader for the stereo is? I'm guessing its 16gb as it doesn't recognise a fair chunk of the music on my 32Gb card.

Having said that, does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade the software such that it will recognise 32gb or more?

thanks in advance,

Chris.

There's a couple of threads on this on the first page of the ICE forum. Have a look there. They will read 32GB cards, but some owners have said they won't read over 2,000 songs so that might be the problem.

It will read 32Gb cards. Possibly larger as well, but 64Gb and the like haven't really become common enough yet for people to have tried.

That is right about the filing structure though - that can cause issues.

What year is your car? And is this the Bolero or Columbus you're talking about on yours?

Im having problems with a 8G micro SD card in SD card holder!! Gets half way through an album a just stops saying card error!!...Should i be using a standard SD card?

K:)

I've found it's nothing to doing with the quantity of data on the card. I have a 1Gb card in mine at the moment with about 5 albums on it but one of those isn't appearing.

thanks for the info, I'll head over to the ICE forum and check things out there. Probably the 2000 song limit. We'll see... :)

Not advisable, as you're adding an extra level of complexity in there which should be avoided if possible. I'd put a normal SDHC in there :)

Often it isn't, and is more to do with how the folders are laid out. Anything different on your 1Gb card, in layout terms? Or perhaps in the type/speed of the card?

Okeydokey so !!..il be off to buy a standard SD card then!!

I've always found MyMemory to be good for them. Play.com sometimes have some quite good deals too

Cheers :) Il see whats what when i get a bit of time.

Make sure it's Class 4 SD Card (small round circle with 4 on the card), as some had problems with newest superfast 32GB Class 10. Stick to class 4, it's fast enough for songs. I have a couple of SanDisk/Kingston 16Gb, working fine.

And don't buy a card off the net simply because it's black and you think it will blend in with the Bolero better because when it arrives you'll find it's blue just like all of the cheaper ones you could have bought ;)

Black marker pen along the bottom edge - job done :D

Never buy memory cards from Ebay, unless it's from a "Top Rated Seller" in the UK, as there are too many fakes.

Buy them from Amazon, 7dayshop, Expansys (Got 2x Duracell 32Gb Cl.10 SDHC cards from them for just over £70 inc .delivery).

MyMemory is reasonable, but I've had 2xCF & 1SD card go bad on me from them so not overly impressed.

I can't be bothered with the SD card route anymore it's too much hassle, I've got 2 Ipods, so I use them instead. emoticon-0103-cool.gif

My 32Gb is a class 10. The bolero certainly doesn't pick up all the tracks. It seems to be a memory or track limitation thing. It's a bit annoying and if I had a class 4 one to try I probably would. But I do get a fair chunk of music on it and I'll just put the rest on the mp3 player in the armrest so it's not too bad really.

Seems it only recognises mp3 files and not mp4

I got my 32gb card class 4 from mymemory.co.uk good service went for a special deal card with no problem. Got the card full with mp3 and have never had a issue.

That could be a controller issue, based on the fact it's a Class10. I've seen several PCs and laptops with in-built readers have issues with Class10s, when every other class works without problem.

Yes, that's right. Why are you using MP4 out of interest?

Jusat to clarify matters (now that I'm clarified myself)

The bods at Skoda limited the SD card to 2000 tracks (so earlier posters who said this were right). This was apparently to reduce search time to acceptable levels (so it was a compromise). From the rumblings on the web it would seem that a lot of folk aren't too happy about this given that Skoda touted the bolero unit would work with 32Gb cards (2000 tracks take up about 10Gb depending on your bit rate).

The skoda bods say that there are no firmware updates due so it looks like those of us with big music collections will have to use other means for now (through the aux port) or just use 2 SD cards.

hope this helps,

cheers

Chris.

No wonder then when I just tried a SD card with just under 3,000 tracks @ 192kbps, it didn't do anything! emoticon-0120-doh.gif

I think the easiest option for those who've got mammoth music track collections is use an Ipod or MP3 player than faff about with an SD card.

What about the people who've had updates applied to their Bolero units by dealers?

Or are we saying that even using the latest available update, there is still a maximum track limit of 2000?

Playing devils advocate here......

Surely it can't be too much hassle just to use two SD cards? Split your music A-M then N-Z or something?

I'd imagine swapping SD cards would be less hassle than plugging in an iPod and losing the ability to change tracks through the head unit. Different story if you have MDI obviously but but is it worth £150 to not have to swap an SD card in and out of the dash?

I know it should work with more tracks and it's a ball-ache that it doesn't but surely now we know the reason and a hard and fast rule we can work around it without too much inconvenience?

I agree, Stevoraith, just using 2 SD's is the way to go for now.

My VRS is a week old so I'd imagine it has reasonably new firmware. I'll have to investigate how to check the version (if it is possible at all).

It's not end of the world stuff so now I know the cause I'll just work around it until they upgrade the units.

cheers

C.
