I.6 Ambiente Opinions

Featured Replies

New to the site people so please be gentle!! I found it BTW from a review on reviewcentre by JaneC. Thanks!!

I am considering buying a low mileage 1.6 manual Ambiente 2001 model from a Skoda Main Dealer, with 8 months left on the warranty. We'd really like an oil burner, but the pricing is

Num,

Welcome to the site.

Have you been to the Skoda UK website? On there there is a car finder which carries a pretty up to date stock list for all the UK dealers.

Site address is www.skoda.co.uk

Click on enter

Click on the fourth button in from the left for used cars, click on used car search, put in your postcode and away you go

Yep - been to every conceivable site including all the dealers sites! It's interesting that the TDI's achieve much better residuals than the petrols - but on working out the additional cost / benefits, we'd have a two year payback to recoop the additional outlay for a TDI vs. the petrol - also most of the TDI's that are almost in reach are the earlier GLX/SLX models - the Ambiente spec is better overall than on both of these IMO - at least it gets a rear wash/wipe (not on either earlier model) and no Climate (AC on all the time on the SLX - very wastful).

We are pretty much set on the car - it's in excellent condition with 42k. I just wanted a few pointers or opinions from "real" owners. My main concern is the fuel consumption - are the the VCA fuel figures anything like reality - or can I really expect 25mpg around town and 35 on a run?! (as we get we our current reliable but old 1.6 Fiat!!).

Send a PM to Robmawer, he has one and can fill you in on all the details. :D

Hi and welcome!

My previous Octavia was an SLX TDi estate and this had rear/wash wip and climate control.

Mine was a 2000 W reg and at the time was the top spec model. If IIRC the SLX is equivalent to the Elegance and they're the same spec.

Maybe the hatch was different to the estate. Nick (ncarring) has an SLX so he can confirm otherwise and of course Rob has a 1.6 Ambiente (I think).

Good luck with the search.

Cheers.

Adrian.

I'm afraid its true , the SLXi hatch didnt have a rear wiper (in fact , no pre facelift Octavias did) but it did have Climate (you can switch the VAG climate control off by selecting the ECON mode (then it behaves just like a car with no AC) , or simply turning the fan off so OFF is shown in the display , so it doesnt have to be wasteful!)

PS should have stated 'no pre face lift hatches' there , the Estate has always had rear wash wipe!

i would think you get more than that to the gallon... I have got 26.8 all in for my vRS over the first 2k miles... and im not exactly known for my throttle restraint...

Wait until its run in Paaul.

I've had mine as low as 6, and I drive like a granny :D

will get similar on the track after the remap no doubt...

re the 1.6 ambient to drag this back round to topic..

its a good car - however if you want to play with it you need a turbo petrol or diesel...

if not then i doubt you will find better value.

yep that'd be 1st gear @6,500 revs

bout 36 mph? even in a 60 zone?

:D

But seriously on topic.

I get about 34 mpg out of my vRS on average, with a fair combination of motorway/a road and town driving. Which is about 1.5 mpg less than the quoted combined figure on the skoda website.

So I think the figure are relatively accurate. I reckon you're be looking at about 38/39 mpg combined and up to 49 motorway (if you drive at 70 which of course everyone does ;) )
