TDI 110 4x4 Fuel Economy

Featured Replies

Be nice to get the following indicated fuel consumption reading every time, however still impressed for the normal 37 mile 'A' road commute home from work. Previous best being 55.5 a couple of weeks back on a long run up from Lincolnshire.

I did a reasonably long motorway run in my greenline on wednesday (mix of rush hour and not) and after 225miles (approx.) i'd barely bettered 62mpg.

For a 110 4x4 that looks pretty decent to me.

The A15 (and surrounding roads) are hard to keep a constant clip on.

On a seperate note:- I find myself surprised how cleanly the 1.6tdi engine revs and how optimistic the "change up" indicator is.

I only ever got to test drive the 2 litre models and bought the greenline on a leap of faith.

Good to see you enjoying her after your long wait, Tim!

Are you driving her super-carefully, or just as per normal?

And I agree with you that white is right!!

Hi George,

yes very happy with the new Monster, appears in a number of ways to be better than the previous Yeti. Certainly impressed with some of the additional features such as the adaptive xenon's, optional front park sensors and the leather seat facings, oh and not forgetting the 16" rims (big improvement over the 17").

Regard driving then I've not gone out my way to run her in, other than try watch my revs in the first 1000 miles. Today's drive home was a typical affair of tractors, lorries and the addition of caravanner's heading my way to the coast :S Oh and idiots playing Russian roulette with overtaking; close to having to go off road to avoid a head on :o

Certainly cannot remember getting figures like this with Pat other than on the 205 winters which were making the instruments over read.

Regards,

Tim.

Had a run out despite the weather :rain: and got mixed results on the fuel. 42 out (more uphill + lead foot :giggle: ) and 54 back. However after getting stuck behind a horse box I noticed the following readout when we made a brief stop in Malton.

:o you have beaten swmbos 58.7mpg :giggle: . must say i am impressed with the mpg the 110 gives on any trip out it will show 30+mpg after 1-2miles and its only done 500miles so far. I have found that it will give the best results if you keep the revs between 1500-2000 in any gear, if you drop it below 1500 in a high gear the mpg drops even though the engine is not laboring.

I don't think you will have to do a high mileage to get back the extra cost of the 110 over a petrol, some have said 20000 but i think it will be a lot less than that.

I'll be lucky to get half that today when I venture into South London this evening emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Almost reached 20,000 miles in mine so suspect I have got back the extra cost!

Regularly get over 55mpg during gentle runs on A-roads. dual carriageways and motorways. Pretty impressive for a roomy 2litre 4x4.

Will try your revs recommendation to see if I can average 60mpg from time to time.

Given the higher cost of diesel at the pumps and the higher initial purchase price of the diesel yeti; how do you figure it'll take just 20,000 miles to recoup the difference?

Hi Focus,

TDI 110 is the cheapest 4x4 engine option on the Yeti ;)

Already appreciate that but im trying to confirm if it's really the fact that it only needs 20k in miles to recoup the difference. Isnt the above effectively saying that by around the 40th fill (of the more expensive fuel), you would then be into cost savings? :-)

Pretty sure even with the extra cost of fuel, in 4x4 guise the 110 is the best option overall for low running costs. Factor in initial purchase price, reasonable road tax, low insurance, stronger residuals and around 45mpg (actual).

I was wrong....thankfully....33 miles, 21mph average speed (not bad for London!) 40.3mpg. No where near your figures guys for the CR110 though....

Hi Mike

maybe you need a remap down to 110 levels  only joking :giggle:

Sorry about my misleading response to an earlier comment. The 110 TDi is the only 4x4 option in S trim and so there is no higher cost to recoup. The 110 4x4 is also cheaper than the petrol 4x4 in other trim levels (except strangely the SE Plus which was not avaiable when I got mine) so again, no higher cost to recoup. It's only with the dearer 140 and 170 hp 4x4 diesels that you have a higher cost than the petrol 4x4 to recoup, presumably with lower consumption (and perhaps the other costs that TP mentioned).

For me, it was a no brainer. I wanted a 4x4 version and the 110 TDi in S trim was by far the best value imho. And after 20,000 miles, I am still sure that I made the right decision.

Still very happy with my S trim 4x4 110 also. Fuel economy does really depend on driving style, and remembering to get into 6th as soon as possible. but I can achieve around 55 on a longish run, observing the road speed limits.

Anyone know the reason why the 2wd 110 only gets 5 speed box?

Surely the 6 speed would fit.

not enough torque? cost? doesn't need it for economy purposes? No ideaemoticon-0140-rofl.gif
