Is the VR logo VW used on the Golf VR6 the same as Skoda

Featured Replies

Hi all

Was behind a Golf VR6 to-day & wondered if the VR logo VW used had a connection with the Skoda VR (S) ...Anyone know?

C.

No connection at all.

The Skoda "v" was placed in front of RS to keep Ford quiet...

Ah, right.. Think I did read about that...So what does the VW 'VR' stand for?

& the Skoda' V '? RS = Rally Sport , Yeah ?

Thanks

C.

the V in the VR6 just stands for the V configuration engine, 6 is the number of cylinders, not sure about the 'R'.

VR6 Golf

VR6 Vento

VR6 Corrado

VR6 Passat

VR6 Transporter/Caravelle

think R on vr6 refers to design of narrow angle v6 layout as its pretty compact.

RS comes from the german term "RennSport"

Correct!

VR is a German acronymn for "Narrow angle V".

VR is a German acronymn for "Narrow angle V".

Yes, the R refers to Reihe, german for row (or in this situation a straight cylinder layout) and the V refers to a V cylinder layout; that the narrow angle is like a combination of the two formats. Not sure how that stacks up from an engineering point of view though...

As said above....apparently VR relates to the V configuration and the narrow angle.

But vRS' have 4 cylinders inline...... sooo its:

v????? Rally Sport

v????? Renn Sport

IIRC the 'V' in front of the RS stands for the first letter of where Skoda's HQ is in Czech Republic. can't remember where it is like, anybody else know?

Sorry if i'm a bit thick sounding here but, as my Octy vrs is 20v I assumed it was 5 cylinder!! & a friend of mine presumed the V stood for V5 like on Golfs & Bora's..
