GreenTec Engines?

Featured Replies

I wanted to know if the GreenTec will be a seperate model making it a petrol version of the Greenline or would all the TSI engines as of MY12 be updated with this start/stop technology and lower CO2? If thats the case, it drops all the TSI engines into the £30 per year tax band (which would be uhhhmazing!).... Anyone know?

Lifted this from another post on here

"Following a partial makeover and the launch of the GreenLine version, an economical Green tec version of the Fabia, Fabia Combi and Roomster, with environmentally friendly technology, is entering the highly-charged compact car market. The Fabia Green tec and the Fabia Combi Green tec are available with 1.2 12V HTP/51 kW, 1.2 TSI/63 kW and 1.2 TSI/77 kW engines, while the Roomster Green tec can be ordered with a 1.2 TSI/63 kW or 1.2 TSI/77 kW engine. This is the first time that Start-Stop and energy regeneration systems will be associated with petrol engines.

Significantly reduced CO2 emissions

The main aim of the newly developed efficient technology was to reduce CO2 emissions. In the Fabia and Fabia Combi with the 1.2 12V HTP/51 kW engine, the difference between the normal version and the Green tec version is 9 g of CO2 per kilometre; with emissions of 119 g/km, both cars are among the most efficient cars in their class. These values were achieved not only by means of Start-Stop and brake energy regeneration systems, but also by fitting 15-inch tyres with reduced rolling resistance and a modified five-speed gearbox. The higher gears have been extended, allowing for lower revolutions at higher speeds and thus reduced fuel consumption.

The CO2 emissions of the 1.2 kW TSI/63 kW engine were reduced by 7 g/km to 114 g/km, or by 10 g/km to 124 g/km in the Roomster. The same values were achieved with the 1.2 TSI/77 kW engine thanks to the use of green technology.

Green tec models can be identified by:

 a green square after the sign indicating a 1.2 12V HTP/51 kW engine;

 a green “i†in the sign indicating a 1.2 TSI/63 kW engine;

 a green “i†in the sign indicating a 1.2 TSI/77 kW engine, accompanied by a green square after the engine sign"

probably not able to adapt to a dsg gearbox

Wonder if its done anything to the fuel consumption?

Possibly, only by a few MPG I'd imagine.

I just want it for the £30 road tax lol

Why not just get a Greenline? FREE road tax, plus it comes with a bonus feature allowing you to shout "mug" at Prius drivers... The price! ;) I'm only kidding I know a diesel isn't for everyone...

I like dervs but doesnt look like the monte carlo... plus the 1.2 sounds like a tractor =/

You're right there it looks nothing like a Monte. I'm loving the slightly ridiculous space age "aero-spoiler" (is there any other kind?) though...

Yes it does sound like a tractor. One of its charms for me, but would put a lot of people off. The torque you can get out of it I could probably plough fields with it too!

As most petrol engines have about 20 to 25% worse mpg than the equivalent diesel I don't quite understand the thing about getting the cheaper tax, especaially as the diesel is likely to be even lower... I can understand the dislike of the noise, in fact if you are looking for an economical car that's the only reason I can see for choosing petrol over diesel...

Why wouldnt you understand wanting cheaper tax

I want to drive a petrol car

If skoda can shave 4g of CO2 off I no longer pay £90 I pay £30 tax... who wouldnt see that as a good thing!?

I don't mind diesels, I enjoy the torque that they have, but the TSI engines give a similar 'surge' of power which swayed me to buy one

now if diesels came as dsg

i would of considered one

being mrs T only drives auto

if they can put them on a vw t5 van.

car shouldnt be a prob and i do

think there is a market for one

stands back watch battle comence

There's saving money and saving money... The saving of £60 a year is peanuts in the overall cost of running a car... We've got so hung up on the tax bands over recent years that we tend to ignore the fact that to really save money on a day to day basis we need to address fuel consumption before CO2 emissions, the tax itself is not such a big part of the costs unless you are doing a miniscule mileage... I'd did say, however that I could understand someone wanting a petrol over a diesel for other reasons!

Tofo, I agree, though I won't hold my breath!

I'm simply saying, if they are introducing Greentec to all engines, awesome, that saves me £60 a year? Don't see what the fuss is about here, its not like im going out buying a specific model to SAVE £60 im saying if they fit it compared to the CURRENT tsi engines people will save £60?

VW have been doing the same for a while, they would have a Bluemotion model in the line up but other models could be ordered with Bluemotion Tech. Basically you get the same car but with stop/start, regenerative braking, intelligent alternator and on some models taller gearing. On some newer models like the Passat Bluemotion Tech has become standard.

The technolgy does work with DSG although you don't usually get the taller gearing.

It's a welcome addition, performance wise the 1.2TSi 105 is much more peppy than the 1.6TDi 105 and it's in a different league to the 1.2Tdi, the two cars are a world apart. So if the 1.2TSi is your choice then the technology is worth having.

Aye what im wanting to know is if it will be a standalone Model called GreenTec or if they will just fit it to all cars made in MY12.. might contact Skoda although doubt they'll know!

Skoda UK don't know yet, I've asked.

If it's a cost option I'll be pushing for a deal on it because of the 40+ week wait we have had.

Ouch!!!

Stop / start tech is only any use if you drive over a certain mileage per day, if I were to have a car with it then the battery would be flat in days due to the short trips my car does. Hopefully any system like this will have a disable function and not be compulsory.

My current car has stop/start and still fires up instantly and I drive through Cardiff city centre daily... and yes you can swich it off :)

That's where regenerative braking and intelligent alternater comes in, anything the system takes out is very quickly replaced without load on the engine and if the system detects low battery voltage the system is temporarly disabled.

Skoda don't know anything about this yet lol spoke to them today however I noticed the ibiza 1.2 tsi now has stop/start as standard bringing co2 under 120

Hi,

I believe the Greentec models will be available in a number of trim levels, not sure which ones though dont think thats been announced.

Engines set to be the HTP 70ps and 86/105ps TSi's. Basically will have stop/start, brake regeneration and energy saving tyres. Might be some aero tweaks ala Greenline but not too sure.

DSG can be married with stop/start. The Audi A3 can be had with stop start and 7 speed DSG. Doubt Skoda will offer a DSG Greentec variant though.

To be honest not convinced stop start makes huge MPG gains. My Dad has an A3 1.4 TFSi DSG Stop Start and his fuel economy after 10k is still only about 40mpg; not fantastic seeing as it should be doing nearer 50. Can be quite disconcerting as well when it cuts out before you need to pull away quickly; be very scary should it fail to do what it needs to do!

  • 2 months later...

Just googled trying to find an answer and saw this thread. Figured I'd bump it to see if anybody knows yet if the greentec changes are automatically added to the my12 cars or if it's a standalone model? I have a vested interest in this cos my tsi 86 is due to be built 1st week of September (not sure what that week number is... 36 I think).
