Mods vs Warranty

Featured Replies

Hi All

The forum is proving very useful already and it seems there are a few popular tweaks and modifications that could make driving my incoming Monte Carlo all the more pleasurable! However, having never had a new car I'm unsure of how they affect the warranty?

I put a lot of time into my old car upgrading the stereo system. Very much a less is more approach with sound quality the main aim, with very good results. In the Fabia, I don't think I'll want to change the headunit. Just replace the standard speakers, sound deaden the doors and use my current diddy RE8 sub and and MTX amp to fill the sound out a bit more. However, will wiring in an amp (power cable and fuse from battery back with bespoke earth cable in the boot) void all the electrical gear? And is sound-deadening the doors going to affect the warranty on the doors and all its components?

Also, the addition of a rear anti-roll bar is being used to good effect. As these just bolt to the existing trailing arms and don't actually replace anything, what does this do for warranty on rear suspension components? Coilovers might be on the cards for later, and again, does this affect warranty on the whole chassis?

Don't get me wrong, I love the car as it is from the test drive, and have the utmost respect for manufacturers and their warranty's. Hence why I'd like to find out what 'personalisations' are acceptable within the warranty definitions :)

Thanks for taking the time to read and help out

Changing the heat unit for a Bolero will give far better looks and the useability with mdi is massively improved.

Ah, super. Cheers for the info! Do any of the Skoda units come with RCA/subwoofer lineout as standard?

Glee cast eh :giggle:

i would imagine anything that changes from original design will invalidate the warranty on that area, ie coils will affect the rest of the suspension but brakes wouldnt be affected, if the door leaks after you change the speakers they might not repair it, things like that id guess

No they don't, you can get adapters to go into the quad lock connector but quality ain't going to be as good as a dedicated aftermarket stereo.

Also with regards to warranty, any mods could invalidate your warranty. More often than not though change suspension that is no longer covered, also things like trim rattles and bearings might also be declined. It all depends on the circumstances.

Sorry to hijack here but would the Bolero unit be a straight swap for the Swing player and work exactly the same with the Maxidot and my bluetooth?

I'd like to point out at this stage that the video is one I found on youtube and does not have any resemblence to the artist list on my ipod.

It's a straight swap on VW's (RCD310 to RCD510) but never done a Skoda. The maxidot will be no different and the blutooth on the Bolero is much easier than the swing.

Should be a straight swap, but you would need the Superb version of the Bolero as the Yeti/Octavia one will not fit the Fabia2 as its a different shape.

Could always fit the columbus navi, same setup as the bolero, but added sat nav

Yep same functionality but they do go for a fair bit more money and you will need to install a gps antenna.

So what's general concensus then?

Hopefully fitting speakers won't knacker too much up! RARB; just remove it before taking her in for services and such?

if they can be changed without removing the door there'll be no issues but if the door panel has to come off then just hope it doesnt leak. as for the rarb, i fitted the jabba one to my mk1 and the dealer never battered an eyelid and the mechanic even complimented me on it ;)

slight thread hi-jack (sorry) but just want to double check that what I have read on here I understand about a RARB -

they help reduce body roll and increase front end grip, fairly easy to fit and not massively expensive, ie <200 quid. Can be fitted without lots of other suspension mods..is that about right??

thanks :-)
