PS2 or Xbox for driving simulators?

Featured Replies

Another year older on Monday and looking to buy myself a new gadget. Sad I know, especially for someone who is the wrong side of 35!

I must confess for the past 18 months i have been a Nintendo gamecube fan and there are some cracking games available on this console (metroid prime, zelda, fz zero, burnout2....)

However the cube is lacking in any real racing/driving simulator titles such as gran turismo or any decent rally games.

I am an original playstation 1 owner and loved GT1 and 2 ad TOCA.

Due to the drought on decent driving games on the cube, I am 99% likely to go out and buy a PS2 tomorrow in preparation for GT4. Before I do this is there anyone out there who thinks the xbox offers better for driving sim titles currently?

Thanks in advance for your help

Here we go again... :D

If you like your driving sims, get one of the high end logitech wheels, driving force pro \ momo force support two and a half turns lock to lock, and the resistance \ feedback is an element missing for so long from driving games...

Then get the GTR demo for the PC....

Console wise, PS2 will use the above driving force pro in GT4, toca2, burnout etc...

Assume this has been asked may times b4 - apologies, i run a search

It's been discussed countless times, xbox and ps2 owners are over defensive...

For "simulators" get a decent wheel and use the PC, for "increasingly realistic but very good games" then go console.

No need to apologise..tis just yet another RS v 4x4, Octy v Furby etc etc type argument...

I've had both and prefer the XBox. Some think the opposite...

Try both & buy accordingly :)

My Pc not powerful enough to run sims smoothly enough and can't be bothered to up-grade it every year so will probably plump for a ps2.

On a totally different subject, i looked in and joined www.civictype-r.co.uk last week.

Nice forum and there are many posisitve comments on the skoda brand. Interestsing to see views/perspectives on other forums of this type

If you bring Toca2 or Burnout3 online give me a shout, both great racers.

From a completely biassed point of view - having played but not owned both, I still have a preference for the PS2, mainly due to the sheer variety of driving games available.

Both have their benefits though - Project Gotham Racing 2 on the X-box is excellent and it looks as though Gran Turismo 4 on PS2 will be amazing. Both feature plenty of exotica and I think that both feature the 'Ring'.

PC plan ok but the hardware is too expensive to just play a game.

Good luck with your quest...or get both - only a couple of hundred quid :D

I've had both - bought X-Box when first came out and was disappointed by the amount of decent games,so sold it went back to PS2 - then came PGR2 and I sold the PS2 and bought the X-Box - now I've sold the X=Box and bought a PS2 ready for GT4 no doubt I'll be back to Xbox when something worthwhile comes out - but maybe this time i'll keep the PS2 as well :)
