Advice for a prospective vRS owner

Featured Replies

Hi all, thought id better join as I've been on here looking at posts for several weeks. I have been considering buying a Octavia vRS but have read some reviews (on other sites) that the handling is a bit dicey at times - however, I have ignored all these reviews and I am currently on the look out for a good deal. Cant wait to get a test drive in one.

If anyone has some advice for a prospective vRs purchaser, and current Punto owner (dont laugh) then pelase get in touch

Cheers

Hello & Welcome :wavey:

Ignore the "Other Sites", go for a test drive and make your own mind.

Steve

Go for a car which has been well-looked after, drives well, and has a full service history. The Octavia vRS is still a remarkably good car for the money, as are most Skoda products now. Welcome from me too. :D

Cheers guys.

I was thinking of getting one from motorpoint.co.uk - cheap at

Buy mine!!!!!

Motorpoint have been about a while & have local sales are near me at burnley, with shed loads of cars so not some dodgy company (went lookin before I bought my fab vrs, but price not to far off dealer, plus for skoda I was told 1yr warranty as opposed to 3yr fom uk dealer). Just a thought also but if the new octy 2 vrs is out soon wouldn't you be better off waitin a short while for one, or if out soon existing skoda dealers will do mega deal to sell the old octavia vrs to clear old stock, so worth asking first.

Motorpoint tend to sell imported Octy RS's...be warned :)

motorpoint ones have strange irish spec .. smaller wheels... no climate iirc...

And a centre armrest iirc..

Definitely to be avoided ;)

Motorpoint are imported cars.

And the two company directors, by law arnt allowed to be company directors (both used to be, but now are banned), but as always theirs a loop in the legal system and they have got round it by being in partnership with each other or something...

Try tins.co.uk or drivethedeal.com, both very good internet companies...

You wouldn't be thinking of Micronet Showroom by any chance, would you ?

Yes as a matter of fact I would! oops :o

My mistake... forget about the director's comment i made, totally irrelevant to motorpoint... :)

But still they are imported cars :D

There must be a catch somewhere, I mean, there nearly

You'll find you can get the dealers down to near enough the Motorpoint price. The price I got mine for from the dealers worked out a few quid cheaper than the Motorpoint price, + extra years warranty, + the price of a full set of mats (which you don't get with the imports).

Take a test drive and have a chat with the salesman

Cheers Jimbo - i think im going to go to a dealers and get one, seems the safer option.

The Octy vRS must be a popular car! I have phoned most of the dealers in Scotland that are close enough to home. None of them have any in stock, but on has the car on order - however, its a 10 week build period so I'll have to wait a while to get a test drive in one. ****!

I'll just have to be patient and save more money

Surely you'll get a dealer with a used one in stock, for the test drive? That's what I got with the Furb vRS. In fact, they had 2 Furb vRSs in stock used and one "out the back" about to be delivered to a customer.

Thats what I would have thought but having been to two dealers in glasgow, and phoning another cpl of dealers around scotland to check there doesnt seem to be any around at all. I spotted one in the forecourt of a dealer last week but it was in for repair to a damaged window - they were, quite rightly so, reluctant to let me test drive it.

One of the dealers told me theres a 15 week build period for them. The problem seems to be that Skoda dealerships are franchised so the interaction between individual dealers is very limited (if at all)...............for me to get vRS sent up from a 'competitor' south of the border would mean the dealer having to buy it from them, something which most dealers are not interested in doing so it would seem.

I noticed a couple of used Octy VRS's on the forecourt of a dealer in Broxburn recently - don't know how close in 'Central Scotland' that is to you?

Cheers watchman,

Im in Glasgow, and work in Grangemouth. Was it Broxburn near Livingston? What is the name of the dealer? I might go an check them out.

If you're concerned about handling, definately go for a test drive :)

If you are considering second hand, do take a look at WrightyRS's Octy as it has some of the best tweaks making it a superb car linky.

(sorry about the free plug :D)

Grangemouth? I'm just along the road - in sunny Bo'ness!

The dealer is over in Uphall, actually, the west side of Broxburn,on the main street and yes, that's over Livingston way - West End Garage tel 01506 855300. The used VRS' were there a couple of weeks ago. Helpfull guys (so far anyway)

hth

St. Andrews in Glasgow has an Octy vRS estate, or they did on Thursday when I was there. I've checked the Skoda website and it's still on there.

Of course, if you want a vRS hatchback, then this post is meaningless!
