vRS steel wheels??

Featured Replies

Is it possible to fit steel wheels (same size and width) from some group car, instead of the alloys fitted to the Vrs. Too hard to look after and the finnish is bad, brake pad dust pitting the coating on wheels after a few months. Thanks for any info :rofl: R

17" steel you mean?

Standard size 16? or 17s if poss! R

Isnt the spare a 16" steel?

Pretty sure the Fabia vRS one was so they are available.

blimey. Not sure if you'd be able to get 17" ones. I think 16's could be the norm, with the right size tyre it shouldn't be a problem.

I'd never dream of doing it though. Only vRS without alloys.

DOH! of course the spare is steel and same size, all I have to do now is find some funky old hub caps... RETRO RULES HA HA no more filthy wheels just blast em with the power washer..... R

Hmmm...Last time I checked Audi A3's come with optional steel wheels, which looked almost alloy.

Wonder how much Skoda would take for 'three spare wheels for a Fabia VRS'. Even better, imagine the look you would get if you asked your dealer for that!

 Are you being serious?

brake pad dust pitting the coating on wheels after a few months.

I also get pitting on the 15" Elegance alloys. How does one remedy that? It seems that they should have better treatment to start with. As I'm getting a new one in a few weeks time, is there anything I can do to protect them from new?

Clean em more often :D Seriously tho hav'nt had any probs with my vrs wheels, even tho I don't clean it/them as often as I should.

If you really want to go retro, how about wooden wheels with riveted steel treads? They were good enough for Ben Hur.

I'll swap my steel spare for one of your alloys!

Is the spare wheel on a furbie restricted to 50mph because the steel is of poor quality?

If you want to keep the wheels clean, firstly give them a thorough cleaning then use normal car wax on them.

I do this with all my cars and then the next time they are dirty you only have to rinse the wheels and they come up spotless.

Repeat the process every six months or so.

Count me in if your wanting a steel in place of an alloy. ;)

The steel spare wheel is restricted to 50mph to cover their own 4r5es more than anything. With it being a different weight from the other 3 wheels the handling of the car might be a lil bit out, so if you crashed at 128mph (within the cars usual spec) with the spare on you couldn't say they didn't warn you.

I always thought this was unavoidable as it's due to hot brake dust coming off the pads under braking, the dust then melts it's way into the surface of the lacquered coating.

It is quite baffling, for several reasons. I would be surprised if there is any heat left in the brake dust as it settles on the rims. And if heat is the problem, why does waxing them help? I wonder if there is any chemical action with the surface treatment. I would expect that surface treatment is at its thickest in the corners of the rim, so why do I get more pitting here? Is it just because the dust gathers here in larger quantities? Is the problem solved more more frequent washing, to stop it getting a hold?

Shouldn't have thought so, unless it's one of those tiny space saving wheels.

I'll swap - now you can leave your spare in the boot and have a new set of 4 steelies!!

Thanks for all your offers. But I will keep the alloys and check out the audi steels s/h market or an alternative. I would not like to sell Vrs on without alloys and my stange tastes and practicle ways, possibily not the norm. Has anyone had replacement alloys as the quality is so poor??? :):) R
