Air con recirculation spontaneous illumination

Featured Replies

Afternoon guys & gals.

My VRSII has the 'normal' air-con controls (rather than climatronic climate control) and I've noticed it occasionally puts itself into 'recirculation' mode (the left-most of the bottom two buttons).

Anyone else's do this?

Anyone know why it happens?

I also noticed today that it automatically turned off when I turned the temperature dial up (it was as far down as it would go).

Many lovely thanks to anyone who has a clue. :D

mines always switches on as soon as i switch on the airco, also i am pretty sure it switches on when you reverse to stop exhaust fumes from getting in the car.

Not sure if it’s the case with Fabias but when some cars are put into reverse it automatically sets the air con to recirculation to stop fumes getting into the car. So if its only happening in when reverse its probably ok.

When you switch the air con on having had the dials set to 0 it switched the re-circ on, couldn't tell you why though.

Sometimes in my current car, when I drop the temperature on the climate control down to 16/17 it will put the air recirculation on, I would imagine its easier for the car to get down to this temperature without drawing too much air into the car, it can just use the cold air thats already in the car.

Hi Guys, just checked my Roomster, this year 11 car, when dial is set full on to Blue temp the Recir comes on,turn up temp a little bit and the Recir goes off. Says nothing in handbook about any of this.Started engine and put into reverse but this did not make Recir come on. Hope it is not a fault, will keep eye on over the summer(if we get one).

Yea this is a usual response with newer aircon setups or so i believe. Makes sense really if you think about it, if your in a hot climate you dont want to have to pull in hot outside air at say 30 degc then cool it to 20 degc all the time much more efficient to recirculate the 20 degc air and just cool it down a few degress if needed.

When you turn the temperature up again (not sure if its just past a certain temp or if its clever enough to determine the outside temp) then the recirc goes back off as the aircon does not need to cool the air as it is already at the correct temperature.

Yup when I put the temperature up higher on mine it sometimes switches the recirculation off but to be honest, whenever i put the aircon on i have it stone cold in there :p

Yeah I've noticed the same on my late MY11 car with manual air con. Went outside and tried a few things. It automatically puts the AC on when you put the fans to the screen (understandable) but did not do re-circ when I put it into reverse. I have noticed it put recirc on however at times. Wonder if it is something to do with the car warming up?
