vRS leather handbrake cover loose

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Silly post really but just been out in our vRS again and when putting the handbrake on noticed the leather handle/cover moves backwards and forwards slightly covering the release button a little when pulled forward.

Cars only done 330 miles; pretty sure its done it from new too. Not a big deal but wondering whether this happens in anyone elses car and if its just how it is.

Going to have to take the car back in at some stage as the front number plates started going funny already so wondering if its something I should have addressed whilst its in.

Cheers

mine doesn't, things like that can be annoying, just ask them to fix it, I'm sure they will

Is it something I can fix myself or has something broken off inside do you think?

Cheers Rob, guess it must be a fairly common fault on these. Pretty sure our Ibiza had a similar arrangement and the same happened to that.

Paul

mine is loose as well i think i will take it back,

Used to move -> <- in my old vRS, a quick tug backwards and all was good again.

Gave that a go, no good. Is possible to lift the back end of the cover up too. Must be broken clips or something.

Be interesting to know how it comes off, see if the damage can be seen underneath. Dont particularly want to play too much with it! I've asked a mate whos a mechanic (deals with quite a lot of VAG stuff) what the problem is.

I think the whole plastic housing from the cup holders all the way to the back has to be removed if I' m not mistaken in order to gain access to the handbrake. The gear stick has to come off too. :dull: there are screws under the rubber pads in the cup holders and that how the fun begins.

Never mind guess its a common defect. Got a 12 day old baby to look after so it'll get fixed by the dealer as and when, not going to fiddle myself :-)

yep mechanic friend said the clips built into the cover are probably broken; a faulty part from the factory or not properly fitted probably. Aware this is a weak point on these cars though.

Mine is loose on the very back of the handbrake but certainly doesn't move forwards or backwards. Will have a word with them when I pick some oil up on monday.

Was at the dealer at the weekend to see about my handbrake cover and the clips at the back of the cover has broken off it os they replace it for me with a new cover

Nice, will do this when I can be bothered to go in and order it :)

I hadn't noticed it before I tried, but mine does move a few mil

Is definitely a common fault then :-)

Same here - it moves just a few mm.

mine almost covers the release button when pulled forward
