Flashing Glow Plug Light

Featured Replies

Hi folks, need some help,

Has anyone encountered loss of power and flashing glow plug lights and an illuminated DPF light on a vRS TDi?

I felt a slight juddering whilst driving yesterday and then my Diesel Particulate Filter light came on. Most of my driving is a cruise controled 60mph on the motorway so I figured I needed to clear the filter so upped the speed 'a bit' for a good 20 miles or so.

The light was still on this morning so gave it another blast until I felt a loss of power and the glow plug light started flashing. The car slowed down to around 50mph and flooring the accelerator made no difference. Eventually after 15 miles or so it speeded back up to 65/70ish but no more and when driving in 2nd or 3rd gear now there is hardly any acceleration.

Ive had a sensor go caput a couple of years back which was linked to the management system and was fixed under warranty but I cant recall the glow plug light coming on when that happened.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Cheers, Blair

I have no idea about the DPF. I'd check that the brake lights are working though, and if none of them are, replace the brake light switch at the pedal.

Need to get is scanned for faults to know for sure whats up with it

I had this on my previous 09 vRS CR TDi. It needed a new sensor on the fuel line. Two minute fix for the dealer.

I'd be checking the sensors as well, I have the flashing glow plug icon so I've been doing a lot of reading on it recently however in my case it's just the glow plug icon which is a bit different. However those who have had the DPF light up as well seem to have traced it down to a sensor. I don't really understand why it's the glow plug light that flashes because as far as I can tell none of the faults it relates to are glow plug issues.

Sounds like its not regenerating fully. could be a pressure sensor. There is a svs action for this sensor and engine SW updated. Might be worth getting it to or calling a dealer to see.

just had the same issue and was eventually rectified with a replacement pressure sensor as a regen and forced regen didn't help

I've had it on my pd vrs, and that was traced to a pressure sensor.

Thanks for the replys,

Took it to my mates garage on Friday where he plugged it in and he reckons its a faulty censor.

Cant wait to get it back though as Im currently stuck with the wifes Qashqai :(

Just had this exact problem. Faulty sensor replaced and all good again. That and two new tyres has made it an expensive month!

Hi guys, iv got a 58 plate vrs diesel. The dpf light came on and then the coil light. Iv had the pressure sencor replaced and then a regen worked fine. A few days later the coil light came back on and its in limp mode again. Any ideas?

I had the same a few weeks ago. I took the EGR valve off and gave it a real good clean. So far (touch wood) its been all good

G450 pressure sensor, google it and Briskoda at the same time and you will see plenty of threads on this.. £50 part, 20 mins to replace and do a forced regen and this issue will go away... despite what people say driving at 40mph in 3rd gear is the fastest way to clear the DPF down when it does a regen, I had a laptop connected when i cleared mine and that speed is when the exhaust temp went to over 700 degrees and started clearing out the ash!

Also make sure you get the later part revision number for the sensor..

Hi guys,

Coil light is off for now. started it up again after and it was off. i can make it come on when-ever i like. all i have to do is use full throttle in a high gear, seriously :/

Nail it in 1,2,3, or 4 and its fine but stick it it 5 and plant the foot and the coil light comes on and it goes into limp mode. it goes off and everything is fine again as soon as i restart the car.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds to me more like sticking VNT vanes in the turbo... poss clogged EGR but ive had the occasional similar issue with mine and think mine is down to the VNT. Still waiting for someone to actually do a decent write up on how to perform the MR muscle trick on a PD170 but as yet no luck.. I may just end up having a garage take the turbo off and clean it.. would rather do the Mr Muscle thing but no one is overly helpful in answering how to do it which is rare for this site!

If you can find your turbo actuator, see if you can move it at all? will give you a good indication if its the turbo or not..

Hi guys,

Took it to the garage today. They said the fault code related to the pressure sensor so theyv ditched the one that fitted last week (from euro car parts) and ordered one direct from Skoda. So hopefully everything will be ok tomorrow.

Regards the EGR and VNT: the EGR would post an error code in the ECU i think and as for the VNT lanes wouldnt they would restrict the turbo to nearly nothing? which wasnt the case. I like your thinking though and thanks for taking the time to try to help.

Cheers

Mike
