OK, I'm officially a ding!

Featured Replies

Went into my local garage this morning as the engine management light came on last night on my way home. They connected the diagnostic machine, said the it was a code E8 & E9 fault but there was no further information shown so he reset it, and told me just to keep an eye out for things. I bought some more oil from them as I'd used the last at the weekend and went to work.

Came out of work and thought I might as well see if it needed topping up with my freshly acquireded oil, and yes it did, a whole 0.25ltr. So tidied oil away, emptied a bit of rubbish out or car along with the small rag I'd used to clean the dipstick and then closed bonnet. Started the engine to drive off and OMG, it could hardly maintain tick over. Revving, then about to stall.

So a quick drive round to the garage again. Mechanic, quickly ran in for diagnostics machine, connected again to find no errors. He asked for some engine details, so the bonnet was opened and low and behold the problem became apparent. I'd forgot to close the oil cap on the engine. Once replaced, the engine resumed its normal purr!

O yes, I'm a ding and was rightly laughed at!

Lmfao! :giggle:

You think thats bad....theres a bloke on the Roomster section who "cleaned" his rear drums and shoes with WD-40 and is wondering why he keeps failing the N.I. verion of the MOT!!! :o:giggle:

Made me feel slightly better, :) .

I still remember the thread on here that someone towing a car by using the strut brace on her Fabia. She posted "have I done any damage?" when she showed a very bent brace.

I've done similar, doing some brake work on my car, I was wondering why the pedal was quite soft with a lot of travel. Putting the rear drums back on sorted it out.

Doing an oil change. Poured in half a gallon of fresh oil before I remembered to replace the sump plug.

:D

As Hommer Simpson would say "DDOOHH":giggle:

Years ago, when some engines burned a lot of oil, most people I knew did that at least once.

I once took a radiator cap off, placed it in the groove on top of the front wing ,and then slammed the bonnet shut. (You'll only do it once.)

I know of a yutz who filled the engine of his Renault S**tenic to the brim with engine oil, and wondered why it knacked the engine. That person is a complete and utter tool by the way.
