Exhausts?

Featured Replies

After reading that a good down pipe can give you up to 20bhp (adjusting the map) and as I would like to track the car by next summer, I've started looking into exhausts.

Just wanted to see what bhp gains people has seen with a decent kit, what sort of parts and diameters should I be looking for, any any other top tips you want to add, I like the Scorpion cat back I've got at the moment as it looks standard but would consider change it if necesserary, all modifications to the car listed in my signature.

(Before people say it, will add FMIC just before the starting track days)

Where did you read that?! People have run over 240bhp on a standard system, it's not very restrictive at all including the cat.

All off the shelf systems are the same size, except the miltek which is a little bigger. However, as I said, only for looks & a little extra noise really, no power to be had from a diesel exhaust.

Good to know, not interested on extra noise (passed that age :D ), did read it on the last issue of red line, something about fitting a 3" down pipe turbo-back.

Got to review my to do list

IMO (and my exhaust's standard).

IMO you could gain some responsiveness and lose some weight by getting a complete turbo-back setup (ditch the cat). You should definitely talk to your mapper about a map tweak before deciding to do this though.

Worth remembering we'll all need cat's for mot's next year.

Yep!....theres going to be a lot of people with modded cars running around and fitting nice expensive cats back onto their cars!!! :giggle:

or swapping back to standard system briefly?

Or getting bent mot's.

Or getting bent mot's.

<ahem> or gutting the cat.

<ahem> or gutting the cat.

What would be the point in that ?

Milltek do a sports cat, stick it on for the MOT then ditch it after it's passed !

Why pay for a sports cat & not use it? :-/ might as well use the standard cat if it's just for MOT's

Matt

Depends how well you know the MOT guy, and lets face it a cat isnt a "safety" issue so if my mot is slightly bent because of the cat fine by me as long as the rest of the car is tested to the normal standard.

Done that for the past 3 years :p

The mot'er can trick the smoke tester machine apparently.

( my cat is still in place and will stay there, just thought id say before i get set upon)

Or you could remove your flanged decat pipe, bolt back in the cat you had removed and flanged especially for MOT time

So, to recap, forget the 20bhp gains, overall worth spending the money with my current set up or shall I look else where first? (and where?)

I'd say spend the money elsewhere tbh :) I got the same setup, doing me pretty well

Thanks matt

i ran a milltek cat on my hybrid :)

I thought the MOT changes were still speculation at the moment?

My MOT tester buddy has heard nothing about this still..

Mine passed this test without a cat :)

Don't start till next year, he must be a bit behind, the notices are in some MOT stations already lol

Matt

Really? Anyone actually scanned/photographed or linked to one yet?
