Wash'n Wipe - delayed sweep

Featured Replies

Page 63 of the manual states that "when the 'wash/wipe function is used at a speed of more than 2 km/h, the wiper wipes once again* 5 seconds after the last wiper stroke in order to wipe the last drops from the windscreen. This function can be activated/deactivated by a specialist garage."

I took my car into my local Skoda dealer, Listers of Coventry to have this function activated this morning. - their techy was unable to find any reference to it in their system and, so was unable to make this useful function work. I had this additional wipe on my 54 Reg. Touran so it would seem to be bog standard VAG. My simple question is: has anyone out there been able to get this working and, if so, how was it enabled?

It's very useful to have this delayed single wipe which clears the drips that are left at the base of the screen and which creep up after using the wash/wipe. If it works, as described on page 63, I can recommend it. If not, then the manual is a work of fiction!

From all of your responses it would seem that no one has yet managed to activate this function so I have asked Skoda Customer Services whether it can be done and, if so, how. Their Master Technician will, hopefully reply to my query as soon as he returns from holiday and I will post the response.

Your last seven words are not fiction

I think it is called something like "teardrop wipe". Are you sure you want it?

Had it disabled on my Octavia cos it is a PITA! The 5 seconds between the main clean and the last wipe is just long enough on a dirty wet winter motorway to build up a new film of muck that then gets smeared across the screen.

If I need a wipe after 5 seconds now, I use the flick wipe.

It's as eccleshill says and I totally agree with him.

+1

I forgot to add that it's possible to have this feature on either the front or rear screens.

Used the 'teardrop wipe' if that's what its called, for almost 7 years on my Touran; never had a problem with it. If anyone knows how it can be enabled please let me know.

Enabling it just a case of changing codes with VCDS (or the dealers VAS)

 It's quite scary that this dealer's 'Techie' can't carry out a simple action that your average VCDS armed Briskodian can. I wonder what else he can't do when you trust him to service/maintain/repair your pride & joy!

I'm fairly certain Kevin's wipers work with this extra delayed wipe after a wash/wipe. I'll check tomorrow morning.

PS> settings are as the car was delivered.

Used the wash/wipe twice this morning and 'teardrop wipe' does not happen.

It must have been the Audi A5 I drove for a few months before getting Kevin that I was thinking of.

The only car I have had this function on as standard was an Alfa 159 I had 3 years ago, good idea, never had any problems with it.

My '06 Octavia did this, certainly on the front, not sure about the back.

As did my '08 Octy Scout, front and back.

Mine has never did this and I wish it would. In my book five seconds is just about the right amount of time it takes for the residual water to snake up the glass...
