Might just be a wheel bearing....

Hmmmm would that also possibly give a rumble under harshish braking

Does it do it when stationary? Could be the clutch release bearing or worse the bearings on the input shaft or worse still the diff bearings

No doesn't do it when stationary only when driving and only at certain revs unless it still does it when I pick up speed I just don't hear it

Oh also clutch was only replaced about 8 months ago from ali at unit 18

If it doesn't do it when stationary then the gearbox input shaft is fine.

when it starts to whine, lift off to let the engine go into over-run, if the whine changes pitch, suspect diff bearings, if it remains the same, wheel bearing.

Thanks moggy it does not do it when stationary and it only does it under load so looks like it will prob be diff bearings think I will get it over to ali at unit 18

It does sounds like the diff bearings, or maybe even output shaft end bearings. Unit 18 will know for sure

Don't let a car get you down, you either fix them, or sell them, then the next one gives you grief. Nature of the beast I'm afraid. I have a few niggles with my VRS, but at least it knows who's the boss ;)

Right an update have taken it the car to ali at unit 18 and he ha confirmed my suspicion o gearbox being at fault bad news, but........ The good news is my gearbox is covered under my AA breadown repair cover so the actual repair ain't going to cost me anything,

Well worth having the cover at £15 a month they have replacedy clutch already and will pay for my gearbox, result
