Hid xenon kits

Featured Replies

I am keen to fit one to my fabia vrs as the light output is not amazing to be honest! I was just keen to know if anyone can recommend a particular brand or company? As ebay sells alot and all seem similar! And if anyone has one for sale either I suppose! Lol

be prepared to be bent over and poked a bit this is a sore subject here :/

Don't bother. Unless you have projectors they scatter far too much and blind other road users. They will also be an mot failure as of next year.

Much better to go with uprated bulbs instead. They are cheaper, and work better in the reflector that was designed for them. Osram nightbreakers or Philips extreme are generally what people go for.

I've got Philips extreme and can't tell you the difference they make compared to the crap standards.

google carmodshop, they are the people to buy from, have bought three kits from them for afew cars, they are excellant, reasonably priced incomparison to others, and you can be sure that if anything happens they will help as they have a live chat on their site. they are brilliant if im honest. as for scatter, you have the option of getting either reflector or projector bulbs which solves the glare issues some seem to have. saying that i have the projector bulbs in my reflector lens and have not once had a flash from another car, i also got the lights lined with them installed and passed mot no problems. easy swap in and out anyway :) go for it, they are tens times better than the normal bulbs or uprated bulbs as ive had both so i def recommend them!

I have the more natural white 6000k HIDs fitted, never had any problems mentioned? Never flashed once and flew through the MOT about 3 months ago. Just level the low and you'll be fine.

Brought mine from ebay, just listed as ''fabia vrs HID kit''

The MOT is changing. From next year all cars with HID/Xenon headlight fitted will have the washers and auto-levelling checked. If they don't work (or are missing), they will Fail.

Cant wait for my next mot :)

I have a set, no flashing or anything but they are a bit glarey. Need to swap them soon tho, as said will be illegal soon enough

The £30 in my back pocket is at the ready.

If not, guess I'll be looking for xenon highlights then...

I still fail to see how they can check the levelling & washers tbh. But the projector headlights I can

Matt

The washers only pop up every so many squirts anyway and the level sensor is tucked away on top of the rear beam. I was thinking about retro fitting the headlight washers but im still looking into it/searching for the parts. If it fails ill just fit my original headlamps then refit my projectors. Cant really see why they can fail it if the beam is set up correctly.

This is my point, get rid of the after market kit fair enough, but if they are fitted with the correct projector headlights then its all good imo

I realise they can be overly bright if incorrect and not much use, I just wanted a bit easier night driving really. And as people say mots will be a pain, I think I will buy a decent kit which will do a good job and not potentially blind other drivers! Thanks for the input :)

Projector lenses are not a requirement. Some manufactures (eg Honda Civic) have factory fitted HID/Xenons without Projectors. However the Headlight units are specifically designed for HIDs.

This will be obvious. Cars with OEM xenons have no height adjustment wheel on the dash, and when you first turn them on they should initially go up and down for a second to set their level.

But half the people on here reckon that there's doesn't do that, neither does my mates old vectra. Bit of tap over the wheel soon sorts that out lol

Matt

I don't really have a problem with them if you have retrofitted projector units, it's the idiots who fit them into reflectors that then blind everybody else on the road. Yes they can be adjusted to a certain extent, however they'll never be perfect.

However as of next year they will specifically fail an MoT unless you have also fitted the washers and auto-levelers, so to me it seems a waste of money for some lights which you can get away with for a year at most.

A decent set of uprated bulbs provide so much more usable light than the standards, I rarely find myself reaching for full beam now I have a set of Philips X-treme Vision 100% fitted.

+1

Since I got my first car in 1994 I've always fitted the latest brightest road legal bulbs that the wiring and reflectors can take! Usually this has been either Phillips or Osram (best makes) and their 30%+ then 50%+ now 90%+ or 100%+ direct replacement bulbs in the main beam (high), dipped beam, and fogs (not for fog use but to get more light on verge close to car to spot animals etc) I've been through lots or MOTs and my beams are always spot on....and boy are they bright!!!! But I never get flashed!! Mind you I do have the height adjustment on the dash!! B)

Mine don't do anything either. That said, if you stand near the front of the car you can here the motors whir periodically if the lights are on, which I assume is the self leveling? Either that, or I've a strange noise to investigate!

On my oem xenon fabia vrs the washer jets were removed to fit the fmic then glued in place

Job done :)

I think most HID's look exactly like what they are - a cheap and rather nasty alternative to proper xenons. The only way for an HID kit to be road legal is if the whole headlight unit is replaced with one specifically designed for HID or the existing headlight unit is reassessed for compliance and assigned a new ‘E’ mark. As you can imagine, this is vastly inconvenient and expensive. As most have said on here, a lot of kits may will fail an MOT next year. Just buy brighter bulbs, save yourself a lot of money and hassle and buy a car with xenons next time.

I'm going to get better bulbs as cannot be bothered fitting them! Also I do hate being blinded by lights myself so don't won't to **** others off! Lol I spoke to our mot tester at work and he agreed will soon be a illegal and as I'm training for my mot license next month it would be a bit silly putting them on!

Cheers for the information and advice though :)
