Door foils time

Featured Replies

This morning I had an early jaunt up to Shrewsbury to take Dewi to Inchcape's bodyshop for the rear doors to be rectified and the foils fitted. I got the impression that they weren't best pleased about the job! No parts received and no time given for the painting. He thought that they would need a set of rear door bump trims as well as the foils!

I'm now driving a Polo 1.4 petrol and I HATE IT!! It is gutless unless you rev the nuts off it, the seats are uncomfortable, the ride harsh, and it's noisy.

And for all those that complain about the kph readings in the dash centre, well it is the same on the Polo, with no markings on the speedo!

Can't wait until Thursday afternoon when I shall pick Dewi up again, on the way to work. (via a longish diversion!)

only two sleeps to go, graham

and don't forget... people like polos!

Ok, so what exactly are these foil things your all on about and should I be looking out for something about these when we finally get our SM Greenline.

Oh, and some people do like Polo's. Mine has served its purpose well for the last 3yrs faultlessly, carrying me around our beautiful country at a fair rate of knots and still giving me 50mpg.

As they say though "Beggars can't be choosers" ......... No, wait, scrap that, I'm about to trade it in emoticon-0137-clapping.gif.

Mmmm perhaps we can be emoticon-0105-wink.gif.

Hi,

the rear door protection foils are now standard and have been since November last year. Prior to that they were only fitted when ordering the Rough Road Pack. However Skoda UK were getting to many warranty claims for damaged paint hence the standardisation of these foils.

Regards,

TP

Ah thank you.

Was a simple case of not understanding the word "foil" emoticon-0120-doh.gif, as I do now recognise the earlier thread about "protective plastic film that covers rear wheel arch flares and doors" emoticon-0137-clapping.gif.

Dom.

Good old jargon.......emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Collect Dewi from the bodyshop this afternoon. Foils fitted both sides, but the manager has modified them slightly so they don't need to bend around the door flange. He suspects that this is the reason some people have found them lifting after a short while.

The only problem is that my dealer ordered the wrong door bumpstrips, removed to respray the whole door. She ordered front ones!! They are going to get them and fit them to the car next week. I think she realised I wasn't very happy!!

I suspect not bending the foils around the door edge is a bad idea.

The rear facing edge of the rear doors is exposed to what ever the rear wheels throw at them, as there are no wheel arches as such ,like most cars.(Have a look next time you open a rear door.)

It was one feature of the factory fitted foils that I liked.

Possibly, but all the damage on mine was nowhere near the door edge, but in the curved area, where it had been peppered by stones from the front wheel. The stones/muck from the rear wheels is thrown backwards. There is a photo of mine somewhere here showing it covered in mud which shows this.

EDIT;

look at the first picture here http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/144075-yeti-forum-members-picture-thread/page__st__400__p__2278772#entry2278772
