Was lucky enough to finally drive a Yeti today, a 2wd 1.2 TSi.

My Octavia Scout is in for a few bits and pieces done before the warranty expires next month.

Can't remember the last time I drove a petrol, wasn't holding out too much hope when I saw the 1.2 on the key fob :giggle:

However I was quite taken a back by the power and speed, both from a start and through the gears.

I'm guessing the MPG isn't anywhere near as good as the diesel so probably no good for my 150 mile/day commute.

Very nice car, impressed!

Hmm, our Yetis must be vastly different from each other then.....

Even with a stripped out interior i have never hit 50mpg :wonder:

The best I've got so far is 48mpg on a fairly gentle trip but usually around 37-42. Is there anyway of calling up the average mpg from new? I haven't looked in the manual but it only seems to show the average per trip or actual in real time depending on setting.

If you do not reset the "2" range in the maxidot, then it will show average up to 9999.99 km - what it is in miles, I do not know.

Do you mean "If you don't reset the 2 range in the maxidot".?

There are 3 fuel consumption settings:

1. instantaneous

2. average no. 1 which resets after a 2 hour gap (or you can manually reset)

3. average no 2 which resets after 999.9 miles or 100 hours of driving, or you can manually reset. I reset mine with every tank filling.

to go between the 2 averages just make sure you on one or the other, depending which is showing and just press briefly the r/h scroll wheel on the MFSW.

The more Im thinking about that average of 50mpg over 11,000 miles the more Im thinking that has to be wrong!! :wonder:

Well, I'm pleased for lee getting an AVERAGE of 50mpg. To my mind that would mean that, to average that figure, you'd have to be getting considerably MORE than that on occasions in order to balance the times when it was less.....in order to average 50mpg. If you know what I'm trying to say :)

Always use Shell too.

I'm still getting an actual 33 mpg (brimmed tank - not figures taken from the electronics) although the readout does, pretty much, agree with my actual figure. I don't understand why so much emphasis is put on the readouts when, surely, the only acccurate and real world way to know what it's doing to the gallon is to physically check how much you put in the tank and compare that with the mileage covered.

I did think, from what I'd heard, that it might have done a bit more than 33mpg and know it would do a bit more if I didn't stop and start and did a constant 56mph down the A38....but it doesn't sit in traffic and I'm no Stirling Moss! Will not, on these figures, be joining the majority who proudly proclaim achieving impressive mpg figures.

Still like the thing though and still wouldn't want to swap it for anything else [ except, if it carries on like this, a diesel one, coz I feel a bit cheated :) ]

Even bringing it back from the dealer - over 200 miles, and treating it like there was a box of eggs on the bonnet, it did an ACTUAL 37mpg. Someone tell me how to AVERAGE 50 MPG !!!!

Like i said before, i stripped out the seats and all the spare wheel and crap that comes with the car and drove about 100km's mixed highway average speed of 80kph (like 45-50mph) with the most feather footed possible driving, minimal braking etc.

Working it out i got about 35mpg........

This is using 98 octane fuel.

Thats pretty much what I saw when trying. Think it was 37.something after a while but I have no idea of what fuel was in the tank.

so your 1.8 gets higher MPG when trying :giggle:

I used to have a 520i with a 2.2 engine, it used to get the same MPG as my buddy in his 540i with the 4.4 V8 when in town :D

Must say though, the 1.2 averages 30mpg in heavy traffic and never drops below, its very much a town car and not a highway car.... which suits me ok as Taipei is a asian mega city with the traffic and road infrastructure to go with it :o

If you read my post I was referring to when I test drove the 1.2 as discussed in the original thread. And yes, when trying with my 1.8 I've seen between 46-48.6 mpg :-)

The Octavia Scout is the wife's car to carry the little one safely and was brill in the snow, my lengthy commute resigns me to the 12 year old Peugeot 306 lurking behind the Yeti which we've owned from new.

Basic and slow but will happily return 50+ MPG all day every day. I'm spending £400 a month on diesel and can't afford more so my next car must be efficient.

Saying that the Peugeot won't last forever and I yearn a more modern, luxurious and desirable car.

We own our cars until they die, since owning the Scout (my first Skoda) I'm determined to make the driveway a two Skoda stable!

I really like the Yeti but will need to wait until used prices drop, the new shape diesel Superb is now appearing in my £10-12K budget and it too is a great car if not quite as quirky as the Yeti.

I thought my Scout was as good as it gets but my recent taste of the Yeti has raised the game. Very jealous of you guys!

My 1.2 dsg had done only 700 miles and on Saturday I did a return journey from Barnsley to the Suffolk coast,the route was A1,A14 and 20/30 miles of rural road didn't go over 70 mph and no aircon.Did around 380 miles then brimmed tank on return to first click on pump(I have done this on this car any my previous vehicles ,stop on first click).I drove really carefully as this was my aim to maximise economy.

Worked out at 39.9 mpg,50 mpg is not achievable in a 1.2 dsg Elegance.

Im starting to wonder if the MPG would be better if these 2 things were changed:

1) remap the 1.2, its making more torque in all the right places which should actually help alot as you wont have to drive as hard.

2) lower the suspension by 35mm using stock golf/a3 springs, somebody in the states did this on his tiguan and reported better handling and improvments on MPG on the highway

I will be doing the above mods as soon as somebody in taiwan 'pulls their finger out' and offers the remap for my engine, then i need to source some pre-owned springs probably from the uk.

Guess i am spliting this thread up, maybe we should start a 'How to get better MPG out of the 1.2tsi' thread.

Although my Yeti is. 140 Tdi, I wonder how much difference driving style makes?

My employer has decided that all staff who either drive company cars or use their own cars on company business should undergo the Institute of Advanced Motorists Drive & Survive course.

A half-day course, I did this yesterday.

Whereas my Yeti has been averaging 44mpg over the last few hundred miles, after 110 miles of mixed driving (town, A roads and motorway) with an IAM Instructor, my trip average was 59.7 mpg. I have never had that high a figure before.

I have fitted a Racechip tuning box and while I think it may have made a Difference to the 44mpg, I'm sure it isn't responsible for a 15mpg difference to almost 60.

Could 50mpg not be possible in a 1.2 then?

Imo, no, not as an overall average. That course sounds like a great idea btw. :thumbup:

The 1.2 is pretty good on fuel, my Wife uses it daily for her commute to work, a mix of town and country A and B roads - 25 miles each way and averages 44mpg. The highest I've seen is 53.9mpg.

44mpg is what I see pretty much every time I go out in the car after the Wife has got home and think to check the mpg readout. As far as I'm aware it's never been reset (unless it does it automatically).

The 53.9mpg was after driving about 40 miles in steady traffic (Cheltenham to Warwick) a real mix of town, A roads, dual carriageways and about a mile on the M40, I clicked onto the mpg readout just to see what it had done as I arrived at my destination.

On a recent weekend down to North Devon we 'averaged' 42mpg (lots of motorway 80+ cruising), again I checked it as we were getting near home.
