Monster With a Mind Of Its Own

Had my 1.6 Greenline SE for just over a fortnight now & very pleased with it, however there is one feature??? that is causing me a problem. Most noticeably in 2nd gear when I brake & the speed drops below 10mph, I release the brake, without touching the accelerator the car picks up speed until it reaches 10mph (when in 2nd gear) then maintains this speed. When I apply the brake again as soon as I take my foot off of it the car picks up accelerates again. The cruise control is in the off position & this occurs regardless whether the ESP is on or off, the closest feature I can find in the manual is the downhill assist, but the car does not have the off road option & the issue occurs if I am driving on the flat or going uphill.

Can anybody help. Many thanks.

What are the revs at 10 mph - would guess that your engine is idling ...

Sounds like the anti-stall is working perfectly!

Agree.

Having yet to drive a Greenline though, I would also say that at around 10mph in 2nd gear is where your car idles.

If this is the case then surely you aren't doing the engine any good by continuing to brake and forcing the engine to go slower.

And if this is the case then how have you managed it without stalling the engine.

Dom.

Ps. Can we have some good pics of your new baby please as it's what we are getting soon-ish.

And what does it go like, are you happy with it's performance etc etc. Cheers. Dom.

Oooo, the anti what?????? :giggle:

It's a new-fangled gizmo to enable you to drive away from a slippy starting position without wheelspinning.

It isn't really; but that is what I use mine for.

Anti-stall. It's a system which stops the revs dropping too low when the car is gear. It took me by surprise the first few times mine did it. If you notice it happening a lot you're probably staying in too high a gear and should either have changed down or disengaged the clutch.

As freedie says, you can make use if it to move away from rest in first gear very gently. It can also be handy for trickling along in very slow traffic.

I don't think you'll find it in the manual. I believe it may be such a common feature on so many modern cars that it's not regarded as being worth mentioning. Contrary to what the same suggests, it does not eliminate the risk of stalling altogether.

I remember some posts a year or so back with various people managing to stall their new Yeti. Not heard anything recently, so they must have got used to it....emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Stalled it yesterday, but quite rarely these days............. just don't like to talk about it thats all.

I used to be able to bumble along in my diesel Passat in slow moving traffic, 1st or 2nd gear, with foot off the accelerator and the engine on tickover.

DO NOT DO THIS IN A YETI...

It will cause premature wear in the dual mass flywheel, an expensive repair.

How?

If the clutch is fully engaged there cannot be any wear.

I wasn't referring to the clutch. The flywheel judders imperceptibly and whatever joins the two different density metals in the flywheel then wears.

This is a pretty good description of the construction and workings of a DMF
