Standard head unit "Swing" and BT profiles - avrcp?

Featured Replies

Hey,

I am a recent owner of a Fabia II vRS and so far quite pleased with the sound from the sound system, although I have found the head unit "Swing" to lack a bit of features - especially regarding bluetooth.

In my old car I bought a Pioneer P-7100BT and I have been comfy with having controls from the head unit of which song to listen to (avrcp, version 1.0). Although not beeing compatible with protocol version 1.3 I haven't been able to read track titles. At least I was happily navigating through my songs. I truly miss this feature now, but I don't want to buy another head unit to a brand new car. :/

I have tried to find out if the head unit supports AVRCP, as it seems cannot control any media player of my Android device from the head unit. It could be that Swing doesn't fully support the protocol and lacks compability with my Android 2.2, but I suppose that Swing doesn't even have AVRCP 1.0. It does feel a bit awkward to not beeing able to control the skip/prev directly from a preinstalled unit, and instead having to unlock the phone and control music there.

What Bluetooth module do you have installed? The headunit is just the control interface to the bluetooth modeul

Hi Raglits and thanks for your response. I'm not really sure as it came preinstalled and it doesn't hint one from outside as car only have generic name like SKODA_BT or so. I think it has been written in one of the related user guide that it is "Universal GSM II"

I dont really know what to think about this BT module.. I have also an Ipod Touch and although the Ipod can see the "Skoda BT" and connect to the car, bluetooth module doesnt accept the connection and refuses to sync. I tried to connect my Desire Z to the car and disabled the phone over BT and thus leaving only media connection through BT - car disables connection and refuses to stay in sync. So it seems that the module is limited to full connections or perhaps I'm doing wrong on this one? I am used to have phone over a separate BT headset for both privacy and mobility, and to have media played over car BT (at least in my old car with the aftermarket headunit with integrated BT).

I've now also tried to connect with an Apple Ipod 4 and a Nokia E72, neither of them will accept controls from car stereo (avrcp). I'm not really fond of having to replace the original stereo on a new car with a aftermarket one.. but I dont feel comfortable of having to play with the phone while driving and would of course prefer to have all the controls from the car.. is it hard to replace the BT module and what module to replace it with?

I believe the bluetooth module is very easy to change as it's a box under the drivers seat and the new module goes in it's place.

Sounds like you'll need the newer GSM III+ but I don't know what the part number is.

Anyone else confirm that the GSM III/Swing combination would work?
