Getting close to first service ...

Featured Replies

I've gone for the variable service option with Betty. Currently on about 16k miles, and judging by what I've read on here on a number of posts I'm expecting her to be demanding a trip to the dealers around about the 18k mark. That should fit in quite nicely, a service just before my summer holidays in August B) .

Also based on what I've read on here, I'm hoping to get a few other little jobs done while she's in:

1. Replace the white worm infected tailgate badge.

2. Get those foil things fitted to the rear wheel arches.

I can vaguely remember seeing some posts on here a long time back about the Bolero and the SD card ... when it's first turned on, or when switching from the radio to the SD card, it takes a long while before it starts to play (odd little message on the screen .. can't remember what it says at this hour of the morning ... "searching" or something like that). I seem to remember someone saying that there's a 'fix' for this by plugging into the dealer's computer and updating the software :S Before I make a prat of myself by demanding that, can anybody confirm that this is the case?

Is there anything else I should be chasing?

As a normal event in the service, the dealer would connect the vehicle to the Skoda computer system and it should automatically download any updates to the car.

+ 1  This is what happened to mine. B)

With the Octy, people had to ask for the Bolero update as it wasn't showing as a 'must have' thing to do.

We are at virtually the same point as I passed 16k last weekend and the service was showing as due in a further 2,700 miles. How are your tyres doing? I reckon I have 3-4mm left on mine. I am hoping to get through most of summer on these and then put on all season tyres. I also need the rear badge changing due to white worm and my boot light has never worked so that needs sorting. That is it though, pretty good for 16,000 miles of motoring.

No it won't, we have to enter a test plan to update any control unit and we are only supposed to update units if we are instructed to do so by Skoda via a recall or bulletin.

Also with regards to the rear foils, by 18k you might find the doors are already chipped so they can't be fitted.

Elsie the Helipad is due for a service in a little over 1000 miles. I'm on fixed servicing as I drive around the Big Smoke too much....Not updated my records recently, but at 7000 miles the car had been running for about 300 hours which gives an overall average speed of 23mph. (I record the mileage, maxidot mpg, average speed and time on each receipt. (I'm a not so secret anorakemoticon-0140-rofl.gif)

Thats interesing but conflicts with what my dealer told me. (And Ross, I dont doubt you!)

I asked about a firmware upgrade on the Columbus as it had gone quiet on me and needed a reboot once previously(car ignition off and then back on sorted it, bever happened again!) Their exact words to me were that "as soon as we connect it up to our equipment, it checks to ensure you have the latest firmware and ECU software revisions". I was most impressed by this! Shame it appears it may not have been accurate now! :wonder: :D

Yeah, tyres are looking pretty good. I swapped fronts and backs round at about 10k. I'm also hoping to make it to late Autumn and then switch to winters, though it might be a bit borderline. Boot light no worries.

If you have a look towards the end of this thread you will see that other people have gone in for the update after seeing that it was available and then are being told by their dealer that it's not available. :S

None so far, but again if I'm reading threads on here correctly if there are chips there's a warranty claim for a repaint?

This is getting spooky. I also swapped mine around at the same time. The boot light has never worked but as I picked up the car in July I did not notice until October when the dark nights started. I don't pass the Skoda garage so I have just put up with it. From all accounts it is pretty feeble anyway.

Do you have an idea of cost? I seem to remember my garage quoting around £250 for this service. That was the quote when I picked the car up last July.

Not even thought about the cost yet, no idea! My wife always tells me I'm useless with money; I just pay what I'm asked without question!

Better send me that £150 quid then Steve.

Cheers

Oh, OK, what for exactly? Oh, never mind, it's in the post. ;)

Techie is right. I reported mine at it's first service @ 20k, and the garage had to send details through to SUK before the warranty work could be agreed.

That is why I am now Yetiless as the car's in the body shop having the door rectified and resprayed and then the foils fitted.

EDIT,

my service cost me £140 including new wipers. There was a thread about servicing costs earlier.

Oh, OK ... might have to fight someone then! :D
