Yeti 4x4 questions

Featured Replies

Here is a Yeti at last week´s auto show in Cali, Colombia. I´m curious to know if Yeti offers any interesting 4x4 features such as locking axel etc. They told me at the show it has "intelligent" four wheel drive. Would it be the same as that offered on Renault Koleos and Nissan Pathfinder. Also whose system is Skoda using (ie. Koleos uses Nissan´s) or is it one developed in house?

The Yeti uses the Haldex system gen 4 like the landrover freelander 2, Saabs, volvos and many others.

It is not a serious off roader like a range rover or defender, but it is probably one of the best softroaders.

The 4x4 is very intelligent. Look up Haldex website and in Wikipedia.

After much discussion on another thread, the consensus with input from a Skoda technician was that the main characteristics of the transmission are:

- front wheels driven with an open differential and wheel spin controlled with an Electronic Differential Lock and Anti-Skid Regulation.

- power take off with drive shaft to the rear, with power transfer to the rear controlled through the Haldex4 clutch. This is an active system which determines the power split based on the throttle setting and inputs from both the steering and ABS sensors for wheel spin, and to avoid wind-up on tight cornering.

- rear wheels driven through an open differential as front.

There are no locking diffs, but its still a very effective system.

Also Yetis can be supplied with an offroad button which modifies the throttle, ABS settings, and provides a hill descent control.

Yes - so pretty intelligent!
