Where to mount plate?

Featured Replies

Well got away with my number plate in the window for 2 months......but today i got pulled by the local PD. They have now left me stuck, i really cant decided where to mount the no plate since having the front bumper smoothed.

Help me decide which is best or offer you own opinion of where i should put it. I'm swaying towards option 2

2) f7.jpg

3) f6.jpg

i think the top on the windscreen in the n/s corner (sticker numberplate)....

That's where it was mate, the police said i can't have it there!

What about one of the stickers just above the fog light

And how long could he go without getting pulled then , totally illegal!, I think they only look good at the side(Oblong) with a wide mouth. It draws your attention to the center of the car, and then no big intercooler

OMG :giggle:

Return to standard asap

each to there own, but i own a old skool mini and went to many shows, the old rally cooper s had the number plate on the bonnet!!! and not even straight sometimes, at an angle!

Could you not get an angled mount and mount it centrally above/inline with the splitter. Tbh none of those postions look good at all

Surprised they didn't say anything about the headlights

All above options look terrible

Best bet, 3/4 size sticker numberplate

Need a lower flip out one like Stu had on his sdi Fabia.

will have to have a look at that, I had a flip out plate on my previous car and it was perfect for shows.

To the OP, I might be boring but I would go for picture 1 or something like CT17 which seats a bit lower, no jap style in my opinion as the car it's not an import or a jap model

Front lights dont have reflectors in do they? :dull: As long as the headlights work why would they have a problem with them?

Matt

I believe sticker plates are illegal as they cannot meet BSAU145d requirements?!

I like the motorised one. Speed camera coming up [presses switch] I believe that would also be technically illegal as law says something along the lines of it must be fixed and complete etc.

The jap style plate looks a hell of a lot better in the flesh!

Not keen on the sticker plates at all think they look a bit 'halfords'

Alfa or a Evo angled reg plate holder. Have a look

it is illegal unless you have a switch far away from your hands, someone mounted a switch in the engine bay.. never used while driving but I guess if you would get stopped and this was spotted you could get in troubles

Picture 1, but lower with a about a 10mm overhang.

Then there'll be enough of the bumper being showed off which you had smoothed and all will look neat and centralized. :)

I've got a 3/4 stick on one exactly the same as Big Jase and it's perfect IMO

Haven't been pulled for it as it's clearly visible

What are your headlights like at night with that film on ?

seems some what pointless to me as picture one looks the best as thats where it should be (there abouts) so it seems silly to take the recess away smooth it over and then struggle to find a place to put it. standards looks alot better IMO

I appreciate your opinion, each to there own and all that! I thought the no plate mount let the front down which is why i smoothed it! Been running no plate since though, so now I'm stuck. Sure I will change my opinion on where it should go every week anyway.

What about a plate in the fog light cut out aperture

I too had a 1969 BMC Mini Cooper in 78, not old school as the bmw is not a mini, the plates on the " rally replicas " monte carlos had the plates on the bonnet as standard, so did many cars of that era, (E type Jag) so you were not special by having yours there, you can have the plates anywhere readily visible but not obscuring your vision , you can fail an mot for having a sticker in the sweep of your wipers never mind a huge number plate

That's why I decided against the smooth bumper idea in the end. I drive fast and get pulled a lot, it's just another thing they can do me for when they can't prove I've been speeding.

Pretty sure smoked headlights aren't legal
